Vin swapping???

       Alright I am not encouraging Vin swapping, however if you do, do it.

         1st the car you take the Vin off of has to go away, and that Vin must now stay on the new car, forever.   If you ever get in a wreck or have to have the car re-checked, and they find the Vin is wrong, you better bring the lube.

       There are 2 main Vin locations, one on the dash, (well not really on the dash as its riveted to the frame near the dash)   Then a 2nd one that is riveted to the frame just above the steering coulomb, you have to remove the dash and speedo cluster to get to it.

                On early cars the only other location for VIN is on the door jam sticker.         On later cars, 87/88 the Vin is on all the panels, hood, fenders, deck lid, roof panel.   This was to aid and prevent theft.

              Next up is altering the rivets you use to make them look weathered, a good exposure to salt and water can cause enough surface rust quickly to make them look original.      While you have everything apart, you are going to want to change the odometer to match the new Vin, this is fairly easy as the Fiero does not have a tamper proof odometer, just take it apart, change it and put it back in.

          Now again, the "old" car you took the Vin from must go away, cut it up, strip it, burn it, sink it in a lake, if it ever turns up, and someone finds a way to link the Vin to your current car, you are going to jail.  Say good bye to your life as you now know it, also with the criminal record, have fun trying to visit places outside of Canada.

         In my opinion, its really not worth it, not unless you have access to a full chop shop.  

       I say do the import thing, even if it costs you $1000 to get it to spec, its still a lot cheaper than gambling on going to jail, and loosing several years of your life.
