Hello,

I took my Fiero to the Aircare center today, and it passed all tests confidently but one: Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) ppm. The maximum allowable is 2438 and my reading came to be 2714 -- the average passing reading is 712.50.

The only thing I did before the Aircare test was I filled up on some Shell gas -- like 5 minutes before -- I always fill it up with Chevron but today was different since I had a quarter tank of gas.

I asked around and learned that the major culprit here may be the Catalytic Converter, but I wanted to gather your opinions and guesses on what the problem may be!

Thank you!

A malfunctioning EGR valve can cause a higher NOx reading.

It wouldn't be the catalytic converter.   My car has never failed on NOx.   I'm pretty sure the cat isn't working on my car.

Check your ignition timing. Perhaps it's too far advanced.
