Hi everybody... I'm a new member.. just bought an '86 Fiero Coupe...
it's my daughter's first car! she's quite excited... she was originally
nervous (before we looked at the car...) that the "red" colour would
draw too much attention... I laughed and said, "it's not gonna matter
what colour it is... it's a fiero, no one your age even knows what the
cars are!!!" it's the base model, 4 cylinder- auto.. everything is
stock.. and it's in really good shape... (except the rims- which are off
of an '86 Fiero SE)...

Thanks for the welcome! speaking of first cars... boy I'll bet everybody could share a story/nightmare there!.. My first car was a Austin 1100.. ('64) when I desperately wanted a Austin Mini.. There was an "Austin" advertised in the paper... My dad went to look at it without me.. (i was working..) and when i got home.. I was the not so proud owner... of a beige (think colour of a computer tower...) 4 door.. Automatic! I was so freakin' mad.. (he bought it with my money...) I think the Fiero for my daughter was my attempt to "break the Curse".. lol...

lol

Your daughter bought the same car I did for my first car. I bought a Fiero GT as my first car too. They're fun little cars.

Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan.

Lets see, first car was a giant BOAT, a 1976 Ford LTD the main redeeming trait was that it had a 351C V8 under the massive hood.

Then several different Air Cooled VW's they were my dads, but I had free offer to drive any of them, Bugs, Busses and such.  Then had a Plymouth Reliant with a slant 6, no keys, push button ignition.  77 Chevy Full Size van, 350 4bbl, 4.11 rear gears.  Then the longest lasting was a 77 Merc Capri Giha (sp)  little screamer, faster than my first Fiero, great handling, but you really had to push it to get it to really perform.

Then finally my first Fiero at 19, my 85GT that I drove until I was nearly 30. 5 different trans axles, 6 different engines, the last motor combo was a 4.9 Caddy V8 and Isuzu 5spd.   Last year at 450,000+kms, the chassis finally gave up, found no less than 5 stress cracks, due to my abuse through my late teens and later racing area.

Chassis transplant onot an 87GT however maintaining all my 85GT drive train and interior.  I have my yellow 88GT that is my daily driver, however its nothing special, everything stock, great runner, fun to drive hard, but not nearly as fun as my V8 Fiero.

88 Fiero GT 5spd V6
Eight Fifty Seven GT V8 5spd.

My first car - a 1967 Chevrolet Caprice with a 396ci beast - hi-rise intake, Holley 4-bbl carb, ported heads, lumpy cam, headers, dual exhaust with pipes out the sides, 4:10 posi rear end. Racked up nine points in the first month I owned it.  Had to slow down as ten points would've led to a suspension of my license (or worse).

That's me, age 19, standing there beside the road to Penticton BC for some summertime cruising way back in 1975.

Yeah, I put a lot of time and money into that car. It was just a factory stock Chevy Caprice when I bought it. But being young and with money to burn (had been working full-time since graduating from high school two years earlier), I changed the look and the performance of the ol' Chevy quite a bit.

I think just the wheels and tires for that car cost me more than I paid for my '86 GT.
