Thank God my wife loves my Fiero passion. She hates everything else I do, but lets me have a garage full of Fiero parts and even found me a storage locker so I could have more Fiero parts. Congrats on getting back into it, I am sure you are going to love the extra power and rpm range of that V6. (plus in every day driving it gets better gas mileage than an 84 duke) |

these cars truly are addictive! I've owned 17 cars in my life ( 3 of them fiero's) and I have never ever driven anything like a fiero! when you lose one you really do feel as though you're missing out on something.

So i went and got the water pump changed, bcambell hooked me up with a good used pump, but after fighting with getting the old gasket off i said to hell with it and picked up a brand new one. i'll keep the other as a spare, the job itself was a pain in the ass as most of you know, but i got it done. I also found out that the car was running without a thermostat, is this bad? As there not being a thermostat, the housing was with rust/crud, and now the new thermostat won't fit, not a big deal but another pain in the ass. I forgot that when you think all is well on these cars you soon find out that it's the opposite, there's always something that needs to be done. Also, my engine coolant cap is leaking pretty bad now, it's on properly and i'm hoping that the cap just needs to be replaced. next up, intake gasket, injectors and whatever else i'm bound to run into while playing.

Hmmm...no thermostat usually means they were having overheating
problems. Make sure the fan is coming on when the car gets good and hot. Just let it idle in the driveway till the needle gets to 3/4 of the gauge. If the fan isn't on by then you need to deal with that. Dawg |

I haven't had a chance todrive the car enough to get it hot, I noticed that my temp gauge was only moving a tiny tiny bit, so i'm assuming that because there was no thermostat it never had a chance to warm up? Now that the waterpump is done, i'll try to get it hot enough to check the fan. I don't have a/c, is there any other tricks to testing the fan other than heating it up? is there a relay or fuse (other than the main fan fuse) that might be blown? thanks

Trust me, it is easier to just let the car do it's own thing. If it doesn't
turn on, then we'll get complicated. Often I find the fan switch does fail. I have never witnessed a fan go bad. They seem to be well made. Dawg |
