Want to straight pipe my fiero

i posted this over at the .nl but i thought id get your guys input too, perhaps you know some local store to get parts.  I want to straight pipe my 2.8, but im not sure how to do it. The cat.converter is welded on right? How could i reattach it(after gutting it) w/o welding it on (dont know how to weld), or is there an aftermarket alternative that can be clamped on or something?   Id almost like to buy an aftermarket replacement pipe, and sell the cat.converter to get some $$ back.  Parts numbers would be a big +

lol oh, didn't know it'd make that much of a difference :P  Ok then, anyone know where i can get a good replacement cat.?  And where would i go to sell my old one?

One example is a Chev 350 with a standard garden tractor muffler with 2 1/2 pipes and a washer drilled out slightly, sounds like Flowmaster 40 series with slightly more bite.

Just cut your old cat out, go to Canadian Tire, bring the cat with you, find a pipe that just fits over the cat pipe. (so you know it will just fit over the exhaust pipe in the car) But a section of pipe, 2 or 4 clamps. I usually put 2 on either side to make sure it won't leak or come off. Install with clamps and away you go.

Its much easier to simply find an exhaust shop that will do it for you. But if you want to do it yourself its not that hard.

As for sound, if you just remove the cat, the sound is actully pretty good, if you remove both the cat and the muffler, its a really bad sound that will drive you nuts.

do you have pictures of those clamps your talking about?

Since the u-bolt style clamps are somewhat destructive (to seal properly they have to crush the pipe), and they also need to be put on with an impact to work properly, another alternative is a Sealclamp.

They're more like a metal sleeve, and have two bolts going sideways.  You just slip this over the pipe joint and crank them down evenly.  The clamp does the distorting to seal, not the pipe.  We use 'em at work all the time.  They're made by Donaldson, and work really well.  They're NOT cheap though.  Well, in comparison to  $1.49 u-bolt anyhow.  :)

A quick search on the Donaldson site shows that Finning (not sure if they do retail) is a dealer, as is UAP (read: Napa!).

well it looks like the cat.converter on my car is held on by those U bolt things you mentioned, there extremely rusted on though lol :P hopefully i can get them off w/o too much trouble.  It looks like it was my heat shield that is rattling, the top is almost falling off :P  Can those U-bolt clamps be put on w/o the use of an impact wrench, cuz i dont have one..
