Im trying to get my 87 GT  ready for sale, we rebuilt the top end, had problems with it running ruff. replaced sensor after sensor until we noticed a plug end was not pushed in all the way.  Felt foolish and spent hundreds on sensors.  Ok so two weeks later the engine misses a beat once inawhile like its not fireing on all cylinders, did an injection flush, changed wires and plugs for a second time. Im frustrated. This is such an open question but any advise as to what to look for next would be greatly appreiciated. I just want to sell my car

Have you done the timing on the car? What did the plugs look like when you pulled them?

And...  you might be chasing something unfixable.

If it's a REALLY slight miss you're hearing - they pretty much all do that!  I know it's not a great answer, but...  having done a zillion of these cars over the years...  it's just the way it is.

If you're REALLY in the mood to toss more money at it - pick up a remanufactured distributor assembly.  The new ones use a far superior reluctor setup (the spinny thing in the middle).

I am with the good doctor on this one. V6 Fiero's for better or worse seem to have that random miss every so often, so once every 10-15 seconds.

We were able to virtually eliminate it on FieroChicks V6 car by completely replacing here ignition system. New MSD Coil, new MSD Wire, New MSD Cap and Rotor, MSD 6a ignition box, and rebuilt the distributor shaft. That means pulling the shaft out of the car, taking it apart, shimming out any slop, then cleaning all the contacts, then installing a NEW DELCO pickup coil and new Delco Module.   Now it fires and starts even before it feels like it has made one rotation and idles smooth as silk.

I am kinda on the fence about the new design dist shaft. I have one here and have looked it at it. However I don't really like the setup. Don't really know why, but something about it, just bothers me. John just so we are talking about the same thing here, you mean the 2nd gen 2.8 shaft with the Triangle shaped reluctor vs the old style with the fingers that pass each other, correct. I may take the 2nd gen one and clean it up and try it on my 88GT for Lisa and I's road trip next month and report back.
