Don't let anyone tell you to run anything but the 'correct' one. 195F. Year round. If you NEED to swap it out in the summer (ie, you overheat) - you have a problem! Fix it. Don't bandaid it.

I take it then that you don't believe in using Rodney Dickman's 195° /185° fan switch along with a 180° thermostat? I know there's some controversy over changing thermostats, but from what I understand, changing the thermostat to a 180° from a 195° (along with the different fan switch) shouldn't cause any problems with the ECM, and the engine bay should stay a little cooler. Especially for electronics (ignition module, coil, alternator, etc), cooler is better. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Edited by Patrick |

180 is too close to the edge of the enrichment point in the ECM's map as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, you can do it... but if it drops even slightly, you kill your mileage.
The switch - It just turns the rad fan on earlier. Oh, and BTW, that switch - it's the stock one out of an 85 Grand National turbo. TS25691 Neihoff is the number (I'm doing that from memory). I've only worked on a few hundred of these cars, and redone many PROM's though... so... what do I know... |

I hope you're not getting defensive about what I've posted. I'm only stating information that's already out there, I'm not pushing it. Edited by Patrick |
