can someone explain some of the differences between a formula, and a notchback with the Aero nose? Side by side pictures would help if you got em.

Thats an Aero Notchback.
Aero Notchback was 84 Indy, 85GT, 86-87 SE V6. Aero package included the side ground skirts, Aero/GT Nose, and Smoother rear bumper. Formula Body style is 87-88 Coupe and 88 Formula. Key spotter is 88 Formula had 15" lace wheels, 87-88 Coupe had 14" high tech wheels. Dual Exhaust was standard on the V6 Formula. Dual Exhaust was an option on the 4cyl cars. |

Here is a Formula, note the wedge nose. Albiet better than the 84-86 Coupe Bumperpad Nose, it is the nose they used on the 87-88 Coupes and 88 Formulas.
Go over to the Members Gallery and then go to the "Old Members Gallery" section. There are good examples off all cars, I tried to always post the model and year. |

First you have to get one thing straight. Trying to call GT's as there own body style is not right. My 85GT has GT Tail lights. It also says GT on the GT Sail Panels, but guess what, its not the same as an 86GT. If you are asking if any Notchback came with Fastback tail lights. The answer is NO. Can you put Fastback taillights on a Notchback car YES. Its not easy but it has been done. There is a considerable amount of cutting and fiberglassing to be done. If you want a Notchback with fastback lights, its best to just find a fastback, grab a sawszall and cut out the longer sail panels, and graft in the smaller panels.

Dave needs to go sit in the corner for five minutes. However, it was a misleading question.

I think PFF may have done a switch a roo. As the pic I saw was a red notchback custom probably an 85GT custom nose, aftermarket mags and WAS NOT THE FIERO.NL JPG not a chance it was a fastback. The PFF car

Oooh, the picture magically changed :D This wasn't the same pic, but similar
ive been toying with the idea of selling my 87GT and looking for an aero notchback. I think in stock form, but fastbacks look better, but really like the look of a lowered, red notchback like in this picture. Edited by kawana |

looking at these pics and Capt. Fieros description then looking at my 88 Fiero I am wondering if mine is a Formula Fiero it has the 15" Lace Wheels, the Aero nose and seats that I have been told are not base model coupe seats. Here is a view showing the wheels. And here is a view showing the seats. Though I haven't seen anything saying it is a Formula I am curious. Thnx

as the average human male life span is around 72 and I am now 36 can I officially consider my fiero as my midlife crisis car?

The only diff between an 88 Formula and an 88 Coupe was the engine and wheels. The wheels you have are NOT 88 wheels, they are from something like an 86 or 87GT. Which leads me to believe the car had the 88 couple 14" wheels and someone swapped on the 15" lace wheels from an 86/87 cars. These cars are 20 years old now, and think back what were you doing 20 years ago. A lot can happen in 20 years of living. I don't know if Mark is still offering these, but see if he is, I had a web page for him in the 90's if the links still work, find out if he still wants to do batch orders. Our club might want to order another batch of 40 of them. http://captfiero.com/fsg
