This morning, Dec 9, I brought some toys down to the Pan Pacific and gave Larry and Willy a WestcoastFieros business card.

They took my name down but were broadcasting live so we didn't chat. So Larry just said a quick thanks and I went on my way.

Heh heh, you young kids don't even know real rock music. Go listen to your Lady Gaga Googoo and leave music discussion to the adults.

Lady Gaga is NOT rock. That's pop.

Rock is more like Three Days Grace/Slipknot/Stephan Ouimette. Man, you ARE old.

Supply some Youtube links you feel are truly representative of their music. Then we'll chat.

Slipknot:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERB2amudLsI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPh8dgaCymU

Three Days Grace (From Vancouver!):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4VCpTZye10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpwCJzPlz8k

Stephan Ouimette (Needs only one song):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyOlK24WD1k

Stephan's is essentially a six minute guitar solo (And a remix, technically speaking) and the other two are on the harder side of rock. You've been forewarned.

Thanks Tristan. Give me a chance to listen to them after dinner and I'll post my opinion of them.

I'll review these videos/songs as I watch them.

Ugh.

Faster is not always better. I can't stand that style of guitar playing and drumming. It's no different than punk "music" was 20+ years ago.

The original version of this song, done by Charlie Daniels back in 1979, is much superior musically, IMO.

Did nothing for me, but it was okay.

I actually liked this one somewhat, except why do most of the vocals (except for the chorus) sound like they're being done by some WWE freak?

I liked way the verses were sung/played, but not the chorus.

The most "mainstream" song so far.

The best one of the seven songs you posted. So much emo though.

Something about the vocals in Three Days Grace reminded of this song I like by Incubus...

Tristan, I think you need to kick back and relax and listen to some old folk's music. Try this song, "Nothing to Fear" by Chris Rea. Crank it up...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAXjd_qfD0I

Or if you want to see a few cars in a video, try "Road to Hell", also by Chris Rea.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abZlWqVeLzg

I like the smooth slide guitar that Chris plays, as well as his vocals. Just thought I'd post these songs/videos as Chris Rea is basically unknown on this side of the Atlantic by any age group.

From a guitar perspective, I do appreciate the guitaring of Buckethead/Stephan Ouimette/Other fast guitarists, as I find it much harder to do while still being musical (For example, I don't like Slayer for that exact reason). And as to the tempo, I crave fast beats (Hence my affection for both Metal and Techno) as I find it more fun to drive to.

Incubis isn't half bad (Although First Movement of The Oddyssy is better, in this one's opinion), but I wasn't overly enthralled by Rea's song as much.

Exactly my point. Nothing "musical" in that song played by Stephan Ouimette at all... ziltch.

Did you only listen to one?

Oh well, different strokes for different folks. It would be an awfully dull planet if we all liked the same thing.

I'll leave you with a "feel good" song. If you don't tap your foot to this one, you need therapy.

This concert footage was shot in 1982, but the song was first released in 1973, the year I graduated from high school.

So...I did hear we got a shout-out from Larry & Willy.

Speaking of music, I was at a concert a couple of weeks ago. Here is the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Don't get me wrong Patty, I do listen to the likes of Gary Joules and other slow songs on occasion, if only to help bring me down, but nine times out of ten, you'll see me pumping to Chevelle or Linkin Park.

And I don't think it's fair to say there's no musical talent there, what he does is indredibly hard to perform (Believe me, I've tried) and I still consider it quite musical. It has a definitive sound, and it's not just one note really fast, it is a song performed very quickly.

That's not what I said.

Stephan's "musical talent" is wasted playing a song in that manner, IMO.

As I stated earlier...

I actually find it quite odd that you'd even refer to this style of music (using the term loosely ) as "rock". There must be a more appropriate label for it.

Are there ANY videos of this band on Youtube that weren't shot with some spectator's puny digi-cam?  I'd like to be able to watch a performance of theirs with stable footage and quality audio!
