I think the idea of keeping Pontiac around for more performance based cars is an excellent idea. Isn't that kind of what Pontiac was about? (Way back in the day before I was born ) The G8 looks amazing and I've heard nothing but good things about it. I see one almost every day on the way to work and I'm very impressed. Imagine more of those, and a G5 GT done up to ACTUALLY rival the new SS Cobalt. I'm sure they could do a RWD version, they're using a modified Solstice turbo set up anyways. Put a V8 in the Solstice, revive the Trans-Am and remake the Fiero! Pontiac always gets the shaft from GM. No more Fiero, no more turbo sunbirds, no G5 S/C or turbo, no more Trans Am..... |

What gets me, (I have actually been watching this) GM IS BUILDING the new Camaro. They are already rolling off the assembly lines. If GM really wanted to wake the Pontiac brand up they would introduce the Trans Am, with the standard "Cool Bits" that always came on the Trans Am vs the Camaro which was always toned down. Pontiac has always been the Cool Kid of GM. They never build a truck, always built the Sporty versions of whatever GM built in a Sedan. No one really has a good Sport Sedan out right now. With the exception of a few Ricer FWD setups. I think the G8 is the only one that is decent.
It wouldn't kill me to see GM die off, it would hurt a bit, but as far as I am concerned if they have to let it go to keep GM alive then so be it. I would not want them to build another Fiero, as it would actually decrees the value of the current cars. Everyone would look down on the Old Fiero's when comparing the new ones. I would not want it to be something like "I have a Mini" but its the old classic one, vs the new current ones. Unless they build something really crappy like the Mustang II vs the older classic Mustangs.
Then I would be sad for ruining the name. Just when the Fiero name has climbed out of the mud into a respectable car. 15 years ago the Fiero and the Pinto were about the same level of Respect. Now the Fiero is actually getting to use its name as a "Proud" little sports car. (for those of you that don't know Fiero means Proud in Italian)
Oh well I got to run. |

Well my only hope is that, in the grand scheme of things a few thousand dollars worth of 88 Fiero parts, maybe a "de listed" stock of 88 Fiero power steering kits, and other assorted parts somehow get found and leaked out to the world. No one ever did prove what happened to the warehouse full of the 89 Fiero coupes. (was posted on the net, around 9 or 10 years ago, GM had at least 20 or 30 built ready to drive 89 Fieros. Nothing as cool as the 90 Fiero, but still a little cool. Well I guess well see what happens over the next 12 months. |

Power steering? Blasphemy if I ever heard it. Why take away what the road wants to tell you? And the new Fiero could have been a cool vehicle, if built as follows: Take a carbon monocoque frame. Install a Chevrolet LS4 in a mid-mounted position. Design a FWD style transmission, with gears five and six being overdrive gears. Offer that annoying paddle shifting as an option. lol Take the wheels from the Corvette.
GM hasn't really built any "supercars", and seeing as how they've only produced to mid-mounted vehicles before (Fiero and Corvair, to the best of my knowledge) they could have taken the title from either one of those two. Still, as Dave said, in their current state, it'll never happen, but besides that, they seem to have stopped caring about what they produce lately. |

Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan.
