i have an 86 fiero se with a dying alternator and everywhere i call up for a used replacement lists them by amperage 66 or 94 (or something like that)so with a quick search on ebay i see typically a 94+ amp alternator is for a 4cyl application so would i be correct in assuming(doesnt state the amperage on a 6cyl other then highoutput ones) the 66amp would fit my v6?

im going to have to ship it or drive too and do onspot so I want to make sure its correct

thx alot

If you have A/C its the 94amp, if you don't its the 66amp.   However you can put the 94 in if you want the higher output alternator for something like a Stereo or whatever.  All Fiero alternators from 84-86 were the same regardless of 4cyl or 6cyl only the amperage changed and that was internal changes inside the alternator.  It was in 87 they changed the 4cyl to a CS style and 88 V6 got the CS style. (note 87 V6 used the older style that was in the 84-86 cars)  If you need to go cheap just buy the 66amp, if you want better go with the 94amp, if you want the best,  get a CS Alternator conversion harness and buy the 105amp CS alternator.

Thats a non issue as the AC runs on a seperate belt. So you can just leave that belt off and it won't affect the alternator/waterpump/crank pulley at all.

update...
bought a new one but it had a different pulley, I guess the guy was newish and gave me a discount so I only paid $100 on the 94amp after swapping the old pulley on and returning the core for credit.

ac belt was badly frayed cut it off and eliminating the screeching\dragging bearing and amazingly the engine revs more freely above 3500 rpm

noticed a huge difference in operation of electrical system(windows, lights, signals, mirrors) as the old one was smaller and this was a weird solution to the fuse that was continuously popping for the map lights... no idea how this would have fixed the problem some sort of backfeeding problems with lack of power?

any idea how to make a belt tension-er?

Sure, have a look Here, or save yourself the time and grief and take a look Here. It'll be the best money you ever spent on a 2.8 for a Fiero.
