Hello,
My Fiero has just been sitting parked for the last few months, and I discovered that the car was completely dead electrical wise which was strange on the account of the fact that not only the battery was recently purchased within the year but so was the alternator. I jump started the car and it successfully roared back to life, and everything seemed to be fine, but after two weeks, the car was completely dead yet again. My educated guess would be that it's an electrical issue  . Any guesses what may be causing this? Thanks! |

My guess, if you have an '84-'86 Fiero, would be one or more of the headlight motors continuing to draw power. Very common problem.

I have an '84 Fiero. I have my headlights positioned upright by removing the relays. Would the headlights still draw power even without the relays?

With the relays removed I suppose the juice is cut off. When the headlight motors in my '84 screw up, I disconnect the single wire that goes to each motor. That allows me to still raise the headlights normally when the lights are turned on... but when they're turned off, I manually wind them down if I need them lowered. The end result is that there's no chance the headlight motors are drawing any power when the headlights are turned off. I love the headlights on my '88 Formula. Much better system. I had the same problem for years, had the alarm removed and fixed some wiring to the MSD box, seems to have helped me...thanks to John:)

As it was previously said, it is a common issue. I have 2
87s and an 88 and if you don't disconnect the battery it will get drained till dead. I have found that either a small trickle charger or disconnecting will solve the problem. |
