Whats really odd is for every 5 overpriced Fiero's I see posted, at least one of them finds someone to buy it. I have seen a steady trend over the last 10 years of Fiero's going up in value. A few years ago, 4cyl 5spd cars in good shape were $300-500 now they are $1000-$1500 some even at the $2000 mark. Fastbacks were only $1500-$2000 and now any nice Fastback starts at $5000 You could buy an 88GT for $3000 in the late 90's. Now any running decent condition 88GT starts at $6000 and goes up to I think the highest I have seen sell was $14,000 for a low mile clean car. The Remainder of this post became very long winded, so feel free to stop reading now. Unless you want to here my idea's on where Fiero's and Parts are heading over the next 10 years. Its Fiero Enthusiasts that I can see getting screwed in this trend. Those of us that bought the cars 10 years ago when the cars were cheap and plentiful are not going to be able to replace our cars when they start to fall apart, parts are already getting harder to find and the people that do have the rare parts are starting get crazy numbers for those parts. This is why Lisa and I know have a storage locker for parts. Parts 10 years ago, that I would have sent to the dump, and even as recently as 3 years ago, I sent 2 pickup truck loads of Fiero parts to the dump, I am seeing bought and sold for more than they would have been new. So long as the contents of that locker increase in total value of $1200 per year, or I am able to buy a large quantity of parts and re-sell it to make back that $1200 I can break even. Its also nice when I need a part to be able to just drive down, sort though a box and bring it home. That alone makes it worth the cost of using it. If you have an attic, basement or small storage building, and can store at the least parts for yourself, I don't think you can lose out in the end. Plus its a good sideline business being able to sell parts to people, it keeps me at the break even point. I'll never make enough money to live off it, but if I can break even, while helping out a few people along the way, I am happy with myself. |

as the average human male life span is around 72 and I am now 36 can I officially consider my fiero as my midlife crisis car?

The parts bit is valid. I've been collecting poarts for various cars I own/owned for years and while some will pop up again as repros, the quality is often inferior to good used original. After enough years it gets to be a challenge to find a part you are pretty sure you have but don't remember where you 'archived' it. Nothing worse than going out and buying a part new and then finding a nice good used one in the parts stash under the bench a couple of weeks later.....

LOL, to the first and 2nd part of your post. 88 Fiero wheel bearings, used OEM GM bearings are being hunted down and sold for the same price as new E-Bearing ones on the racing list. I am sure you have seen that happen a few times. As for the buying a part you thought you already had, I can't count the amount of times I have had to do that with Tools, Parts and all sorts of things. I go hunting for it, get frusted that I can't find it, jump in my car drive to the parts store buy a new one, and sure as $hit, couple days later the part / tool, I was looking for ends up being in my way whle doing something else, I pick up, scream Frack there it was, then put in another box until the next time I need it and can't find it. |

Are the Fiero wheel bearings honestly being hunted down? I hate them, they barely let the wheels spin at all, albeit, I suppose that may be due to age, rather than quality.

Only the 88 Front bearings are being hunted. 88 rears can be changed out with 84-87 rear bearings, and 84-87 Front bearings are about $11 each at the parts places. The 88 fronts were unique, and not used on anything but the 88 Fiero front suspension. Which being such a small run of cars in comparison to just about any other car made yet end up with rare parts as no aftermarket company wants to mass produce something that they can't sell enough to make up for the tooling.
