Alright. Spring is/will be arriving shortly and I'm sure we'll all be getting our Fiero's out and back on the road. That's if you were sensible enough to pull them off the road in the first place.
 But what is needed for some good spring/summer driving.. you guessed it Tunes! Despite the rumors there are some of us at WCF that haven't upgraded everything on their ride. One of the minor upgrades I've been thinking of is speakers. But I'm unaware what is good and what's not. This is an exhaustive list of 4x10's I found on ebay. Pyramid, Pioneer, Kenwood, Legacy, Nitro, Alpine, Kicker, Lanzar, and Boss. The setup is after market deck 50x4. I'm wondering if people have had experiences good and bad with these name brands. Oppinions about 2way vs 3way and RMS recommendations are also apprecaited. Also, I have no idea how to install them. |

Polk Audio Momo 4x10 2 way's w/ external crossovers. If you can find these, grab them. I lucked out and came across a new set on Craigslist awhile back. They sound absolutely amazing. Very clear and accurate sound reproduction. I had the commonly available Pioneers before and they sounded OK as just replacement speakers. I found them harsh and you could really tell they were oval speakers at higher volumes. I've read the Kenwood 4x10s are supposed to be better than the Pioneers but have no personal experience. Another option would be to drop in some 4" or 5-1/4"(cleaner more natural sounding round speakers at the expense of mid/low range response) with an adaptor plate or low profile 6.5" & 6x9's under the dash with custom brackets. ie. some fabrication if you're handy Music tastes vary from person to person and depending on how and what you listen to, you should try to listen and compare different speakers/brands to see what sounds good to YOU |

The question of 2-way versus 3-way is somewhat unfair. A two-way speaker features a mid-range speaker and tweeter (for highs). A three way features a mid-range speaker and two tweeters, which more often than not results in a less shrill high end. Though I've not looked into the 4 by 10s, I know that in 6 by 9s, theres even four-way speakers, which have the mid-range, with one large tweeter, and two smaller one accompanying it. I bought four of them, and found them to be a little too high, although the problem would be easily corrected by tuning the equilizer settings I suppose. |

Yes and Sony, RCA, etc, etc... I only put the ones down that I found on Ebay that particular day. No one else has any experience with any of the these brands? Or with installing them? |

I bought a set of the Pyramid ones (model number 4108GS, 300w, 3-way speakers) from a local fella who had bought them on eBay. He realized after he got them that they wouldn't fit his van. I bought them from him for $20, and really, that's all they're worth. Sure, they're better than blown speakers, but... Installing them is relatively simple. I didn't want to cut the wiring harness in the car to connect the speakers, so I removed what I needed from the old speakers and soldered it to the new speakers so that I could just plug them into the harness. Just make sure you get the polarity right so that the replacement speakers are firing the same way the old ones did (to match the other speakers in the car). Use the 9-volt battery trick to see which way the cones move.

I had pioneer 4.10 in my 85GT and Kenwood 4x10's in my 88GT. Personally I think the Pioneers sounded better. Locally, you can get the Pioneers for $119 and the Kenwoods for around $140. Years ago, Waylon made me a set of adapters to run 5.25" speakers in the dash. So I ran a set of 5.25" Kenwoods, and they just did not sound right to me. I may be the odd one out, but I prefer the sound of the 4x10 over the sound of a 5.25 round speaker. I also run a set of 1.25" tweaters in my car seperatly stuck on the dash.

I also prefer a 4by10 over a component setup in a Fiero. I am running Kenwood 4by10 and am happy with them. Two major things that I look for are:
1. Sensitivity rating. This number will tell you how loud the speaker will play at a given power input. 2. RMS power rating. This is important because if you plan on using a deck to power a high RMS speakers, then you will under power them and loose low-end sound or if you overpower them using a amp then distortion will occur. |

Hey Arun nice to see you posting around here. As a side note to what Aarun said, if you get high power front speakers, do yourself a huge favor and get a small amp for them, or get a larger main amp that has 6 channels. When I amped my front speakers the sound quality improved dramatically. |
