IIRC the strap(s) I've seen were held down under the screw that secures the core itself.
I don't have any cores that need swapping right now, but I'll try to remember to look next time. If everyone else could keep it in the back of there mind(s).... and try to take a picture or 6 if you do see one!!! |

Out of the probably dozen I have done, I have never seen a dedicated "strap" or ground wire. The best I have seen is on the all the A/C cars there is a long brass strap that holds the core into the plastic casing. I would concern myself that if there was a ground wire going from the core to the chassis, it would simply allow stray voltage to go through the core itself. The best thing if you have voltage in your cooling system is to find out WHERE it is coming from and stop it. The main source of voltage in a cooling system is from "cheaper" fan switches, bad fan relays and temperature gauges. As they are actually submerged in the cooling system. |

The whole idea is to keep all parts at ground level. Since coolant itself is conductive (just like any liquid!), and you have a mixture of metals, you can potentially (small pun intended) have a small battery going on. If everything is grounded, then everything is at zero volts. I read a well worded write up on it all some time ago. Good info on electrochemistry in it. Probably on Pennocks. |

If you can make the drive, come on out to abbotsford. Theres a place
called 'All-parts' that has great prices. I bought my heater core from
them, and it was $20 cheaper than Lordco WITH their discount.. That
said, i now work at lordco, and can get stuff for as little as $1 over
cost lol :D To get to 'allparts' go to the walmart in abby, turn
left (i forget the road), go over the train tracks and start heading up
the hill. Turn right onto Abbotsford Way, and its on your lefthand
side. Nice folks and great prices.
