I had a nasty issue with my 88GT spiking tach, sputtering engine, was driving me nuts. Turned out all to be related with the Ignition Module and Pickup Coil. So I decided to quickly do up a tutorial.

This was a reply to another member asking about ignition parts. However I think could be added here, in case anyone else wants to go with the MSD stuff.
Copied from http://captfiero.com/ppc Ebay is a great source for many of these parts if you want the best deal and are not in a rush. I like the MSD box as it fires the plugs roughly 6x per crank revolution, so you get the best torque and gas mileage. However for a car that does not get driven much, its a waste of money. However I drive mine between Oregon and BC so often it has paid for itself many times over. (I get 32mpg on the highway) Plus the added torque is just a bonus. Note these prices are a few years old, but should be close. MSD Blaster II Coil PN 8226 for 85-88 V6 or 85-86 4cly $46.00 MSD Cap and Rotor Bright Red with Brass Contacts PN 8430 Fits 85-88 V6 $22 MSD 6AL with Rev Control $ 235.00 MSD 8.5mm Red Superconductor Sparkplug Wires PN 31189 "CUT TO FIT" These have to be cut and assembled by the end user. $ 82.00 |
