Hey All We have a Club Meeting July 10th 2010

Ok to wet your whistle so to speak.   Topics of major discussion.   Camping and Racing, No unfortunately not at the same time, unless you count the drive to and from  the campsite.

Alright Standard meeting info.

Ok meeting location

Saturday July 10th 2010  @ 6pm

Ricky's All Day Grill

604-455-6002

8720 204 Street, Langley, BC, V1M2Y5

Topic of the day, How Hot is your Fiero........    I think it’s time to discuss cooling system additives, ratio of water to antifreeze, thermostat swaps and radiator fan switches.  Personally I swear by Water Wetter, it kept my 88GT’s temperature in check while cruising at 140kph in 45-50C heat across Death Valley in early August with the A/C on full blast.

CAMPING, CAMPING, CAMPING July 16th 17th and 18th Earls by the River Campground at 46171 Chilliwack Lake Rd, Chilliwack, BC V2R 4M8.

July 16th is the Friday setup day.  Those of you that can get away Friday night, are welcome to come out Friday.  Saturday will be the big Club Picnic Day, food Friends and Fiero’s.  Sunday the 18th will be the wrap up day.     Rules, and Regulations are simple.  They are none.

Food for people on Friday and Sunday is to be provided by yourself, however Saturday the club funds will be used to supply lunch for those that come for the official club BBQ day.

This is the only official club event where alcohol is allowed.  So feel free to bring your coolers filled with whatever your choice of beverages are.    Cost’s, Earl always says its 10 bucks a night per person, however he usually gives us a price break at the time we pay.  However plan on bringing at least 10 bucks per night.   I will have my big inverter along with us to supply at least some power if we need it.   Cell phones are unfortunately nearly useless.  I was hoping to have data connection for the laptop so we could have Internet and Email at the site, but that does not look like it will be an option.  We may still use the laptop to at the least watch some car movies on Friday or Saturday night.

BBQ’s, we will only be brining one small BBQ, so if you have a spare BBQ that you can bring, please bring it.

Hmm, there is a river right across the road from the site so if you want to soak your feet that is an option as well.

RACING, RACING, RACING I have been in contact with the SCCBC, Sports Car Club of British Columbia and at our August meeting they will be sending several reps to our meeting.  So I want to talk about what “We” want to know as a club.  So when they get here, we have an idea of the topics we want to cover.  I’d like to be able to let them know our major concerns so they can be prepared for the discussion as well.  The SCCBC holds several road race days throughout the year, as well as many other Racing events.  Due’s for their club are $40 per year.  http://www.sccbc.net  If you are looking for a safe legal venue to push your car to the limit, take that high speed corner wide open, drop 2 gears and get around that car ahead of you, drift that corner and not worry about the cops taking your license.  This might be something of interest for you.    Brian Browne are local Fiero Track expert has also agreed to be at this meeting with his Fiero that he uses for racing.  He will be on hand to point people in the right direction and hopefully with some prodding, give an enthusiastic talk about using your Fiero as a race car.

All Pontiac and Arlington Re-Cap.        Mostly All Pontiac stuff though, however if anyone has any questions about Arlington and missed the June meeting we can quickly address those as well.   All Pontiac stuff, addressing the fact that there was an error in how they categorized the cars.  Placing the 85GT’s unfairly in with the Fastback cars.  It was suppose to be Notchback / Fastback, and try as I might, it still got confused on the registration and at the gate.   Did everyone get there free Burger with Registration?   What would you like to see done differently?    Were you happy with the small Area setup for our club, (Tent, seating area, car location, fact that there was a non Pontiac parked in our area, that was left over from someone not in the show, might have had a dead body in the trunk?)

I am sure we will have a ton more to talk about, however this covers the biggies.

I think I'll bring in the intake I have hacked apart. Show you the "car-nage".

I've been spending too much time with Patty, making terrible puns.

Hey Colby, it's about time!

The weather on Saturday evening is going to be perfect for standing around the Ricky's parking lot, kicking tires, and swapping break-down stories.

Hey all,

At Mission yesterday and chatted a little with a SCCBC rep, and last few yearsthe CACC has been interested with our club, I am sure it may be Gayle who manages memberships for both associations:)...glad they contacted David as they were all over me wanting details for our club:).

CACC (The Confederation of Autosport Car Clubs)

http://www.caccautosport.org/CACCwelcome.html

I will be there tonight, not with my Fiero as my clutch won't engage properly since yesterday's track day...I'll share what organizations are out there, etc. for those who are interested.

Damn, I think you had the same problem as I did back in September when we had our first meeting at this location.

I hope nobody else got fooled like I did with the map that appeared when the "Map & Directions" link in the top post was clicked. The map was wrong and it showed the restaurant on 204th near 56th Avenue. That's not where it is.  It's north of Hwy #1 on 204th.

Hmmm.... that might possibly explain though why a few "regulars" were missing tonight.

Man, that's too bad.

Dave, perhaps we need to mention in our club meeting blurbs that Google Maps for some reason does not show the correct location when the proper address (8720 204th St, Langley, BC) is punched in.

Why not send them the intersection, or if not, tell them to look for the McDonald's on the corner?

I had no problem finding it from the address in the first post. I think the key is to include the postal code in your search.

Geez, I didn't even know you could use the postal code in Google Maps!

[EDIT] I tried using just the postal code and it worked fine. Who'd a thunk it?

It still doesn't explain though why Google Maps completely screws up when using the address alone.

That wouldn't do a helluva lot of good when Google Maps indicates the location of 8720 204th Street to be on the corner of 204th St and 64th Ave (instead of 88th Ave).

The McDonald's returns like that too? Oh well, no need to find out, we have a solution now anyways.
