Hehe, not to be a jerk, but wait until you see the suspension I have now. My Koni reds arrived, and I have everything for a full coil-over set-up, except rear springs (Haven't found a stiff enough set yet). No bump-stop issues here. |

Sounds great. Pizza's on me! Would I be pushing it to install a rear sway bar the same day? The zero lash end links I ordered for Colby and myself have already been shipped by Rodney. They should arrive at my friend's "weekend retreat" in Blaine sometime next week. Hopefully he can pick them up maybe by next weekend. So perhaps we can arrange a day for me to come out your way when I have these end links for Colby. Thanks Gary.

Geez, if you had a car that ran you'd be insufferable.

Hehehe. I do have a running car, at the moment. I got the Sierra sitting on a gorgeous set of mudders, with my other truck's plates on it.

"haven't found a stiff enough set yet" - Tristan, are you matching the springs to the Konis? Koni reds aren't valved for super stiff springs. Ask Gary, since he has a set of Koni reds on the 914.
Tristan: If you want kick-butt shocks, think Moton, JRZ or Penske. Those are something to write home about. |

Patrick, lets wait till you get your parts before we plan but it seems
that Colby did his front end in a couple of hours per side (right Colby?) Gary |

For sure. With everything already taken apart within the last year or so, at least we shouldn't be struggling with frozen/corroded nuts and bolts. I'm looking real forward to seeing how the car will handle at autocross with a rear sway bar and front suspension.

Was looking for a set of 250's, or 300's if I find some used. I have a set of 125's for the front, but those are softer than the stock rears. |

You should phone a technician at Koni to verify your plan (have the part number ready). Gary's 914 has 180lb rear springs and a fella who knows these cars thinks that's close to Koni Yellow territory, especially with the intent to autox the 914. The reds are working well right now though. If you are set on really heavy springs, then Koni might be able to revalve the shocks to make them work with your desired springs. Ballpark price: Bilstein offers this service for their shocks at around $75/ea (plus shipping and any other maintenance parts they may need). |

Watch out Colby! Patrick: if you and Colby each work on a side, you'll get this done quite fast. Then tossing on the rear bar will be easily done afterwards and you'll be driving home with a huge grin on your face. Then we'll just have to get you some tires. |

The last generation of Koni reds for the Fiero are the yellow's stiffness, but with the red's adjustability. The recommendation is between 200 and 250 for stiffness. I found a set of 225's for $75, but I'm still hoping to find a set at a swap meet for less. |

If I was to get tires, I'd still want at least one autocross under my belt to see how much the suspension changes themselves made a difference. I'm not sure how Colby and Gary did it to Colby's car, but I'd want to carefully measure the maximum amount of movement the lower control arms could travel up before the shocks bottomed out. Then factor that into the maximum amount the metal bumpstop cones could be shortened without any chance of the shocks themselves bottoming out and being ruined. If I had my druthers, I'd like to retain the stance of the car using the same springs (or I suppose stiffer springs of the same compressed height), and eliminate the problem of the lower control arms hitting the bumpstops "simply" by shortening the bumpstops (and not by raising the car). Should be fun!

Gary, I'd be able to make myself available just about anytime you'd like to do the bumpstops, but I don't think I'll have the zero lash end links for myself and Colby by this Saturday. I don't absolutely need them before the procedure is done, but I thought it might be better if I had the zero lash end links installed as extra insurance to help prevent one side or the other from reaching the end of the suspension travel after the bumpstops are shortened (especially if I continue to use the currently installed springs). What do you think? Would the following Saturday work just as well for you, or is this Saturday best?

Can I come out too? I've nothing better to do these days; Truck's done and I still lack an engine for the Fiero. |
