Well Lisa's 1st gen HTC Touch wigged out yesterday. Even the cell radio in it was wonky. After 3 transfers on Rogers Tech line, I finally found one guy that knew his butt from a hole in the ground. He said yep sounds like the radio has died. We talked over her options, and they are sending her a replacement phone free of charge. The new phone is an HTC Diamond. I have done a bunch of web searches on it and it seems like a decent phone. Just lacks a keyboard or Micro SD card. It has the same G sensor as the Iphone, built in GPS, and 640x480 display. So on the surface it seems like a decent phone.
I just checked the HTC website for it, and they just released a new rom that fixes some of the bugs in the OEM rom. (free download with your phones serial number) It claims to have up to 12 days standby time or 6hrs talk time. I have heard horror stories about the phone not lasting 24hrs with moderate use. So I am curious if anyone else on here has one and what they think of it. As for her 1st gen Touch, now that she will have a 2nd phone, I am going to play with hers and see what I can wrangle up. I think the radio is a software not a hardware issue. So being a windows mobile device I can edit the actual phone software and update it myself. I am going to flash a newer radio rom and newer OS to it. If I get it working I might use it strictly as a media player in the car. I already have all the latest TomTom mapping software so that will be installed as soon as I flash the phone. P.S. I LOVE TOMTOM its better than sliced bread.
P.S. I am sitting in my garage right now on the garage PC. When I came out here, it was 6c, I kicked the heater on, 30mins ago, and now its 21c, I really like this heater too. 40,000 BTU, ye haw. |
