There's a reason why this 30 year old picture is being posted here at this time. I won't say anything more about it yet, other than it was taken at a Halloween party back in probably 1979. (Yes, back before there were even Fieros!)
Dave, you're not allowed to say (because Dave has inside information), but would anyone else care to guess who these two Fiero club members are?

Okay, it was easy to guess who that handsome young 23 year old buck was , but it's going to take one of the long time club members here to guess who the the girl is.
She may not be a current member of the club, but...
No more tips today.

It's Amanda! Or Gina! Or Lisa! Those are the only three female club members I know... lol

That's a negative on all three guesses, Tristan. You and I have never met this woman at a club function.
The club "old-timers" should know her though.

LOL, In October of 79 she was probably fairly well developed in her Mothers tummy. She was born in November of 79. Patrick I do have to say, not many members will know who she is, as she was not that active in the club. (3 or 4 club meetings a few club runs and I believe we did a Christmas party at her house) However its hard to believe those pics. Her looks barley changed in the last 20 years. One of the nicest most bubbly Fiero owners I have ever met. Scratch that, she "was" the nicest most bubbly Fiero person I have never met.

Darn, I really thought I had that off the 20 year old who wasn't born yet, or one of the two wives (See, with Patrick constantly chatting with Gina, it was a real possibility!)

Okay gang, here's a tip as to who she is - She has a supercharged personality.

|

I was with Dave yesterday and we had lots of time to talk as we drove to his locker and back to pick up a part. Dave was talking about this supercharged Fiero that was recently bought back by the fella who had originally built it years ago. (This has all been discussed at length in messages on the club’s mailing list.) Dave was mentioning the names of various people somehow involved in this transaction, names such as Erwin and John Everitt and some woman’s name... all people whom I’ve never met at Fiero club functions (in the year I’ve been a member) and therefore people who I have no idea who they really are.
Dave was telling me about the woman who was selling the supercharged Fiero, and he casually mentioned that she was a professional clown. All of a sudden the little light went on above my head, and I thought... How many women named Marianne (as Dave had mentioned her first name) can there possibly be in the Lower Mainland who are professional clowns? (I previously had found out that Marianne had become a professional clown during a singular phone call with her ten years ago.) Sure enough, it’s the one and the same person!
I knew of Marianne in high school (Templeton in east Van, where Marcel was also a student). She was a couple of years below me so I had no social contact with her, but I remember she was real cute. It wasn’t until five years after high school graduation when I went to Langara College that I actually met and became great friends with Marianne. Yes, alas, we were just "great friends".
We eventually went our separate ways (probably around the time she started going out with the fella she later married), and except for that one phone conversation ten years ago, we’ve had no contact at all for 25 years. It is interesting to note however, that during that one phone call we had ten years ago I might’ve mentioned that I was driving a Fiero at the time. She certainly didn’t mention that she had one. Hmmm... now I’m curious how Marianne became interested in Fieros.
Perhaps Dave can chip in and mention some of the details of Marianne’s history as a Fiero owner, including of course the recent sale of her Fiero(s).
It’s a small world, a very small world indeed. Marianne, if you ever see this thread, we need to chat!

This image, circa January 1982, is very bittersweet for me. That's of course, Marianne on the left, but the fella on the right...
Well, the fella on the right is Bror, my best friend who suddenly passed away in July of last year. Damn, I miss him.
An interesting twist to this story... The young fella I brought to the club meeting a week and a half ago (who's very much interested in getting a Fiero) is Bror's son Mathew.
|

I hope Mathew does join, he seemed like a polite guy.
This is all so odd to me though, being a relative newcomer to the group. All these names and dates... Most of these pictures are older than I am!

I had to come and check the forum out (my ears were burning) so I knew I was being talked about!!
I had a chuckle at this post and especially the photos - although admittedly I cringed slightly at them all..especially the demented looking one taken at the Christmas party I hosted for the fiero club long ago. Must have been the refreshments that caused the "look"...but heck it was Christmas and I wasn't driving that night.
The one of Pat and I was taken at Halloween - yup aprox 25 years ago!!! For a two year old I did pretty good with my space lady costume! Nyuck Nyuck!
What a bizarre set of circumstances that led me to my long lost friend! Indeed it was just last week I had to contact both John, Erwin, and Dave. Apologies again, Dave, for waking you up in the wee hours when you had to get up at 5 am the next morning. Cough cough of course everyone assurred me that you would still be awake and no problem to call you at that time. (doesn't point fingers at anyone). Apologies to Lisa as well.
Pat, I don't know if it was when you mentioned Fiero that tweaked my interest in them as I always remembered you as a Camero fellow. My son gave me his car when a lil ole drunk lady once ran into my parked car and totalled it. Remember the same thing happened to my beloved green Pinto too! It also happened to my red Pinto as well. I worked at the Police Dept at the time and it happened in front of the courthouse. Drunk driver going down one way street driving a semi and my Pinto became a 1/2 a car in front of several witnesses. Even ICBC was astounded that I would have 3 cars totalled 3 different times , each time when they were parked and I was fortunate not to be in them. However, I'm digressing..sorry. Luckily that never happened after I started driving a Fiero. Maybe they are such classy cars that no one would dare run into one and perhaps there were lots of Pinto haters out there.
Keep in touch and thanks to the Fiero club for putting me in touch with my long lost pal. I may have to attend a meeting one time although I no longer have a Fiero.

Lookin back at snap shots from 1973...ouch!
Marianne, like Patrick said earlier, we never hung out either, it was the age difference then. (Two or three years)......but you may have known my sister, Yvonne.

"Space lady costume"? No way! If I remember correctly you were imitating Bo Derek from the 1979 movie " http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078721/ - 10 ".
It appears I was imitating Bo as well as I found this other image of Bo wearing the same cowboy hat I had on at that party.

Oh, I don't know about that. We haven't changed that much in the last 36 years, have we Marcel?
..... ..... ..... .....
These 1973 high school annual pictures would've actually been shot in the fall of 1972. I was 16 years old at the time. Geez, if I would've known then what I know now... but I guess that applies to most of us!

omg!! You used my grade 10 pic ...bla! Sigh even when I was having my pic taken I was still talking!
Marcel, I remember you and your sister Yvonne as well! Yvonne sat behind me in grade 10 S.S in one of the portables.
In grade 10, I used to take karate classes and the Asst Instructor was a fellow named Mark K.
6 years goes by and I run into Mark K again at the PNE for some national karate championship. We dated a few times and in our conversation he mentioned he used to date Yvonne several years before! So your sister and I dated the same guy - although several years apart. How's that for seven degrees of separation!
These post have given me a few chuckles - thanks for that.
PS - Pat..nope definately not Bo Derrick (actually think that famous hair style became popular the following year) I was trying to be a Space Lady. Wonder if she copied me? LOL

I got to thinking today about his entire episode and the pure chance that we were all reunited on this forum. What are the chances - that three former "Templetonians" all became Fiero owners and through a set of quirky circumstances we all came into contact with one another on this forum! Mind boggling! My brother in law wanted to purchase the Fieros (he too was also a former Templeton student, although his attendance was sporatic back then) but I had honored my first contact with Erwin who was ever so patient with my long absences and lack of contact regarding the sale of the vehicles.
Pat, I was deeply saddened to hear about Bror's passing and my heart goes out to his family and friends. It was nice to read you have taken his son to one of the club meetings - they are a great bunch of people.
Another bit of trivia is - John (previous owner of one of the Fieros) who originally purchased it from Erwin, then sold it to my son 4 years ago and Erwin who just last week purchased it back from me...(follow all of that?) Well when digging out the registration forms I realized that John and I are neighbors as I moved to a new place a few months ago. That's also mind boggling! Sigh small world indeed!
Thanks Capt Fiero for those kind words you said about me earlier. I think Fiero owners and nice people are synonomous with one another!
I think a reunion is in order!

Thanks Marianne, I appreciate the sentiments. I won't dwell on it here, but yes, I was really crushed when Bror died last summer. (The anniversary of his death is July 14th.) I have to admit I was rather teary-eyed when I posted that old photograph from 27 years ago of you and Bror. It brought back many fond memories from all those years ago.
I still remember lining the two of you up so I could also have the posters on the wall of Donna Summers and Deborah Harry (Blondie) in the shot.

I like that photo! No wrinkles or frown lines!!
This past week I climbed into a deep ravine along with one of my dogs to search for a injured dog that was seen headed for that particular area. At times wading in the water waist deep in order to continue the search. Other times our passage was blocked by 20 feet log jams which I climbed and kept thinking about this post...nah, I'm not old!
The next day I went to IGA where the cashier recognized me from having worked at her school and greeted me by name. I remembered her too and she mentioned she last saw me when she had been in grade 4 and she now attends SFU part time. OMG I am old!
I was pulling up railway ties gasping at the labour intensive job in the hot sun. Shoveling mounds of dirt onto plastic. I sat on my driveway when the garbage men pulled up and I heard an URG when one lifted up the bag. I pop up and wave say thanks I appreciate it. The young muscled guys whistled and I think "ah! I'm not old!"
I arrive home to my new place, bone weary and tired and feel like every muscle in my body aches. Egads, I am old. I think I also have socks that may be as old as some of you before you were born.

Marianne was at the club meeting last night. I'm pleased to report that she still looks more like my pictures from 25-30 years ago than that picture posted of her from the club function in 2003. Funny (or not so funny!) how lighting and lenses and angles can distort how a person really looks.

Hi!!
I spent the last couple weeks sitting in a chair at the edge of my sons
hospital bed. Had to wear a visor, hospital gown, gloves, ect..no phone or
even paper allowed in the room due to possible contamination. So it was
if I dissapeared off the face of the earth for a bit. whew it was scary!
He had what we thought was the flu, it became worse, so we ended up at
the hospital. They transferred him to Royal Columbian and he eventually
had brain surgery in order to relieve the pressure of fluid build up in his
skull.! Turned out he had meningitis which only occurs in 200-300 of the
population yearly in Canada. Still we feel fortunate as he's now recovering
at home.
So guess that's a good excuse for missing the meeting and not as yet
getting together with you Pat for a cup of coffee. Sigh my life has to have
these weird twist of fate.
On another note - I kept getting emails bugging me to join facebook.
Oh no - no time! Eventually when he was at home I finally had time to
check it out. I was curious and turned out that Temp High
School is online and you guys would love seeing all your former friends!
Not to mention an upcoming renunion to be held sometime in Oct. The
facebook site is mainly people from a 10 yr period (our age group).

PS I'll return with the info if you guys want to check it out.

Calling Marianne, calling Marianne...
I know you're around.
I saw a couple relatively recent posts of yours on the Wall at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=109271901058&v=app_2373072738&ref=ts#!/group.php?gid=109271901058&v=wall&ref=ts - Templeton Secondary School 1974 ('69 to '79ers who hung out with us)
Judging from the photos posted and the "Friends" listed at that Facebook site, it could/should be renamed Hastings Elementary School (the 1960's)
I don't see anyone originally from my elementary school, Lord Nelson.
Marcel, I don't know what elementary school you might've gone to.
I joined Facebook just a few days ago to send a message to a fella I bought one of my Fieros from several years ago. I also ended up looking up people I knew from decades ago. I gotta be honest and say I've been kind of shocked at some of the pictures. Some of these people I haven't seen for 37 years. Yikes!

Man, I can't think of anyone I haven't seen in 37 years... Oh, wait.

Hey my ears are burning...means someone is talking about me!
Apologies for my absence as I having been moving ...it's taken 16 months!!!! Now is crunch time as the new people are moving in Saturday.
It's a long story but involves one disaster after another....kinda like the Money Pit story. I'll have to tell you all about it some day. My arms ache as myself and my skinny friend single handedly moved the entire contents of a five bedroom house. I drove a one ton truck during the week and have huge arm muscles.
I found Fiero headlights!!! amongst my many treasures in the garage and a couple of 2 dollar bills!!! Yes Bills not Twoonies!
I promise to be check in once again as soon as the weekend is over.

Hey, first dibs on the headlights! (...if they have the motors attached.)
Geez, it just dawned on me... Are you moving out of that place with the fantastic yard?
Aw, say it isn't so.

Hi Again,
Sheesh, I must be overtired as I meant to say lights not headlights...they are for the back of a Fiero.
Pat, I'm finally moving from the Fleetwood home and living full time at the home you saw (with the beautiful yard). With ongoing renos for the past 16 months I no longer have to travel to two places daily!!!!!
Some people have all the luck - First the sewer backed up...ewww and it took the insurance company a mere 9 months to rip apart my walls/ floors and crawlspace. With three big dogs underfoot and men leaving gates and doors open - we took the dogs back during the week and took turns living at the other place. Meant for months I lived in 2 places. Makes me sound like a rich person doesn't it? In reality we were playing double morgage which killed us.
THE VERY NEXT DAY....after they finished the sewer backup damage - someone ran into my fence and took out 52 feet!!!! Knocked out electrical/water and shrubs/trees.....that only took the insurance company 8 months.
No fence and three dogs....well that continued the two home saga for another 7-8 months. They kept promising it would be fixed" any day".
The only good thing that came out of this is I resorted to using East End language again.
This all was happening when my son contracted meningitus and had brain surgery.
So... work, hospital, house #1, house #2 daily for 16 months or more!!! No wonder no one has heard from me. Did I also mention I happen to have 30 something animals to care for and took on more hours at work in order to try to cover expenses. You won't recognize me ....I'm the one wearing the super woman outfit.
Rob Starr called me....Rob Starr!!!! Sadly, I never had a chance to call him back in my frantic pace.
Now life (after this weekend) will slowly get back to normal and I'll live in just one home like a regular person who just happens to have 4- 100 pound dogs and 30 other animals. Life is never dull!!!
>>puts on rose colored glasses and smiles.

Marianne, get in touch again when you've got something interesting to discuss for a change.
Wow, sounds like a hectic last few months. Glad to hear it's winding down.
You mention Rob Starr. It was Rob who I cropped out of the picture of you and I on page one of this thread.
Good luck with the final move this weekend. We'll be waiting for a report.

Okay so now I know I'm zany. Others may have thought so but I just thought I was eccentric. Now I admit to being nuts. Why you ask??
After all those months of renos.....guess what???
It all started with needing a new roof. I knew this when purchasing this home and thus got a price reduction as a result. With all those horrendous other renos going on , I was cash strapped and prayed the roof would last another season. I'd find cedar shakes on the ground in the morning. Oh sheesh! Worse, I didn't realize the cats were emerging from the balcony and racing around the roof for all to see. I hadn't known they were doing this until I met someone who passed my house one day and said "oh you're the person with all those cats on the roof!!!" Everyone knows about this house as you can see them for blocks around. OMG!!! I always wanted fame but not as a potential nutjob who has a gazillion cats on their roof. Plus, 3 Old English Sheepdogs and a Pitbull who race and quard the bunny enclosure as they see this as their purpose to protect bunnies and guinea pigs. Wonder what the neighbors think of me? It's seriously funny as anyone that passes, the dogs immediately circle the bunny enclosure and stand guard over them.
Don't worry lil fellows we've got your back.
So....it started off needing a new roof.....then the patio needing to be redone as it feels "squishy"...so that was added to the list....then the fence in one section needs to be fixed (not the part that the drunk driver hit as that's fixed now) and then after much debate we decided to take down the garage peak and add a patio. "Whaddya nuts? friends have been asking. This means more....you guessed it....RENOS!!!
OMG!!! The contractor is bringing in a large bin and I can clean my garage at the same time.
So once again "one of these days, I'll get to sip lemonaid, sit on my new porch and invite friends and chat about Fieros.

Well, I guess that means it'll be another 25 years before we see each other again!
Thanks for checking in, Marianne. Keep us abreast of your progress.

Just when you thought it was safe.......I'm baaack.
I just returned last night from Amsterdam! Took a much needed vacation after 10 years of being a slave to the animals. 17 days of Freedom!!! Visited London, Paris and Amsterdam. Yes, I know I'm bragging but if I told you my lastest reno disaster you'd have sympathy for me.
Had to return to work today and then go pick up my two of my dogs at Matsqui Prison where I had placed for boarding and training. The Pit Bull and one of the Old English Sheepdogs. People always chuckle when I tell them I put my dogs in prison, but it's a great program. A Win/Win situation where they take the most unadoptable dogs and match them up with inmates. Inmates benefit and dogs become highly trained adoptable dogs. They fund their program by taking in private peoples dogs..so it's why I took two of mine there for duration of my trip.
Suffering from jet lag but in a happy mood I visited the prison today, after work and spent 2 hours with the inmates showing me what my good dogs learned. The other two dogs and numerous animals stayed with professional pet sitters. It took 5 of them to do my job. That's okay however, as it gave me bragging rights to boast that I do the job of 5-7 people but then not everyone can be a super woman!
Now, the daily grind continues - blah.
Pat, I definately would be interested in getting together for a Langara reunion!
Marianne
PS - As for that nice porch I spoke of earlier in my post. The contractor whom we had throughly checked his references turned out to be a major scum of the earth. Who destroyed my home, a flat roof garage that does not have access either via doors or stairs, didn't pay his sub contractors, nor his employees - thus they walked off the job and left two of our walls exposed to the elements for the last six months. How come people have all the luck? Anyways - you can now see why I REALLY needed a vacation after 3 nightmare renos, animals , work...sigh I even make myself tired writing about it.

Sounds like what happened with our house. Money paid in advance... It's been 10 years since ours started, and I still haven't got drywall in the lower half of the house.

I'm sorry that happened to you as well Romeo. We should wish the fleas of a 1000 camels infest their armpits.
It kinda sucks having to pay back a loan for the next 10 years and the house is in worse shape than previously. Blah!
