Thats one hell of a deal. Glenn's Fiero is an automatic. This Fiero is a 4-speed. No go (unless you wanted an automatic, I suppose).

I've seen this car. I've personally been able to get my hands on 3 different Fiero's, this was by far the strongest runner. ------------- I wanna go fast. |

I currently have a 2.5 with 5 speed isuzu trans and this car has made me curious about upgrading to a v6 Fiero. I have a spare, low km, 5 speed isuzu and cradle sitting in my garage, and I'm thinking that if I were to buy this car then I could take out the GT's motor and build up the cradle with the 2.8 and isuzu trans. Then I would put that into the GT. What do you think? I know that there might a few weird issues with the isuzu and 2.8 combo. Also, I've never actually ridden in or driven a v6 Fiero, so would the upgrade be worth it? |

A 2.8 / Isuzu 5spd combo has been tried countless times and even Ed Parks of the Fiero Factory in Alabama says the Isuzu is the best trans for the V6. Best fuel economy, gears are spaced much better for daily driving. Only real issue is that if you drive it Really hard, you will eventually kill 2nd gear. I ran the Isuzu's behind my V8 and would go through one a year. Granted that was with 300+ lbs of torque V8 going through it, with the rather moderate power of the 2.8 making only 170lbs of torque you should not have any issues. Personal opinion if you were to buy it, just swap your trans into the 86GT and use whatever parts the best on both cars to make it the best of the two. ------------- Capt Fiero 88 Fiero GT 5spd V6 Eight Fifty Seven GT V8 5spd. |

I went from a duke powered '87 Coupe to an '86 GT. Yes, the 2.8L V6 goes somewhat better than an old 2.5L 4-banger, but that's nothing exactly to brag about. Compared to an old V8 or even a modern V6, IMO the factory V6 in a Fiero is a dog with no buildup potential for performance. (Sorry fellas, but unfortunately you know it's true.)

Well, in addition to my spare low km (approx. 16000km) isuzu trans and cradle I have another duke with the same low km's as the trans which I could use and that I was planning on using. Having a bit more power is pretty appealing to me though. One thing I also need to consider though is that my Fiero is my only car right now and I'm going to need it to take me back and forth from university starting in september. I can't decide whether to continue on with my original plan of using the newer duke and isuzu trans or sell the duke (and when the swap is done, my current Fiero) and buy a Fiero (likely this one) with v6 and use my extra isuzu trans. How much do you think I could get for a rebuilt/very low km duke anyway? |

Well its a sad fact, but the iron duke in the Fiero is worth more to a scrap dealer than trying to sell it. I think the most money I have ever seen a duke motor sell for locally was 50 bucks. I've got an '87 duke motor with harness ECM etc that's going to get used! I'll be strapping a generator onto it. They have great bottom end torque, right where I need it!

Well, I decided that since I can't get much, if anything, for my other duke, I might as well put it in and see how I like it. I'm hoping that going from a duke with almost 200,000km on it to rebuilt one will be enough of an improvement for me (they're both 86's, should make the swap easy too). |

Any regrets? I took the young son of a friend of mine out to look at that GT in the summer. He was interested in buying his first Fiero. I advised him not to buy that one. I was rather put off by the "minor cosmetics" (as stated in the ad) which to me looked more like major front end damage. Have you determined what the "click" in the tranny is yet?
