First of all, thanks to Dave for allowing me to take over the Captain’s Chair for an evening.
What can I say, it was fun. I enjoy the opportunity to address a room of people. I hope everyone else enjoyed it as well.
There were fewer people than last month's huge turnout. I suspect that was because people have started to go away for summer vacations (and not because the word got out that I was to be chairing the meeting).
Special guest last night was Marianne who made an appearance at a club meeting for the first time in several years. (I’ve only been a club member for one year so I had never met her at a club meeting previously.) Anyone following the http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1396&PN=1 - Blast from the past thread would have learned that Marianne and I had known each other 30 years ago, yes 30 years ago, and had lost contact with each other for the last 25 years. It was wonderful to see her again and we both commented that neither one of us had changed at all. Well, maybe just a little bit.
Topics of discussion last night included the All Pontiac Show and Shine from last month, the upcoming camping trip, and "phantom" Fieros.
We all agreed that the All Pontiac show was a whole lot of fun for club members. (Pictures and video http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1379&PN=1 - Here .) We were out in force with a very sizable showing, it was a perfect day weather wise, and it was a great way to spend several hours with fellow club members getting to know each other. We also agreed the that the high point of the event was watching John Carlo’s reaction when he unexpectantly won an award in the "Restoration in Progress" category. Good thing John wasn’t at the meeting last night as he might’ve started crying again. Gotta love those emotional Italians!
Information on the club camping trip planned for July 24th-26th can be found http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1417&PN=1 - Here . Fingers are crossed for a hot dry weekend.
So what’s this business about "phantom" Fieros? This is the name I’ve given to the non-existent Fieros which are being advertised on http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/ - Craigslist on a fairly regular basis. They’re usually in-demand models such as ‘87-‘88 GTs or ‘88 Formulas with desirable options and often advertised at a relatively low price. Nine times out of ten you’ll get absolutely no response to your email, and on the rare occasion you do get a response, it’ll be nothing but evasive answers to your questions and obviously no opportunity to actually look at these Fieros. An example of this can be read about http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1323&PN=1 - Here . Actually, this particular episode got even more bizarre with someone posing as the "buyer" of that Fiero and posting in the club’s forum about it. That can be seen http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?FID=1&TID=1377&PN=1&get=last - Here . Whomever it is who’s posting these ads needs to get a life, or at least get out of their parent’s basement for a few hours.
We also touched upon the continuing saga of Tristan's clutch replacement disaster, where Clutchnet has now screwed up big time by supplying the wrong pressure plate not once, but twice so far. Details to be found http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1356&PN=1 - Here .
And by the way, a big "thank you" to Tristan for volunteering to take over for Lisa with the sign-in and raffle duties when Lisa vacates the position for her upcoming childbirth/motherhood duties!
So that about sums up the evening. Thanks to everyone last night for being attentive and cooperative.
Until next time... drive safely!
