[EDIT] I've temporarily deleted the ad because the guy actually emailed me back when I responded to his ad. That was a surprise, but it doesn't mean anything yet.

My initial email to him wasn't very nice. It certainly got his attention though. If the guy's legit, I probably blew any chance I had of seeing the car.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for a short while and see what happens. I gave him my cell phone number to call me to prove he's legit. Well, it doesn't really prove anything, but I'd be surprised if he's messing about that he'd actually call me.

We'll wait (a bit) and see!

          Patrick chill with the paranoia, the governments not spying on you, no one that I know has a personal vendetta to kill you.   Some times people do really want to sell cars cheap if they need them gone Quick.   I bought my 87GT complete for $300 and all it needed was a clutch. 

        Now with this trying to start up a bidding war, I'd go just to nitpick every little thing.   IE mentioning that slight exhaust tic, "and I would say it loud enough for everyone to hear"  ya that sounds like a cracked manifold, probably $2000 head job to fix it.  Oh damn its leaking oil from the (front or rear) main seal, yikes that could be another few thousand to fix.  

If you want a set price for it, make a set price, or at the least go a bit high and do a Or Best Offer.

Lisa and I just sold off her Minivan, we had $1600 worth of trans repair, $400 for 4 brand new tires.  (less than 10,000 kms on them) and at least another $1000 in random parts.

          We ended up letting it go for a grand total of $999 

For the record it was a 1989 Dodge Caravan with the 3.0L OHC V6 in it.  Interior was perfect, just needed some TLC to get some of the stuff working.  We included all the parts, we just never installed them.

Yeah, this idea of having a "group" showing for the car doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm not interested in being involved in some freakin' Fiero feeding frenzy with a dozen other people.

It's not like these cars are a rare commodity.

Actually as sad of a fact as it is,  the average numbers do add up. 

84s $1000

85s $1500

86s $2250

87s $3375

88s $5062

Now there will always be cars that go well above or below average.

Mike Bright just sold his 88 Formula and I believe got $7000 + Train Freight to ship it back east.

Tim just sold his 86GT for $6000

on the other end of the scale,

I bought my 88GT in running condition with Aircare for $1000

I bought my 87GT needing a clutch for $300

Lisa bought her 86SE with 140,000kms SBC V8 Getrag 5spd for $1250

However the averages do boil down to roughly a 50% increase per year in resale.   The 88's might break that mark more often than other years just because of the fad that goes along with owning an 88. 

Now I am sure your fingers are poised on the search button for ebay and Craig's list to try and find prices that don't fit my statue, or see this ad, or see that ad, so before you waste your time, you don't have to convince me of anything.  

 A V6 car will almost always bring in more resale than the 4cyl, however averaging out every model of every year, from the base coupe 4cly to the V6 GT's, its a fair bet that the newer the car the more you will pay for it, and no you can't compare a Pristine 85GT to a bucket of parts, engine blown  water logged interior 86GT and wonder why the 86 is not worth more.     They should be in roughly the same shape.   

          Its not a perfect science, however if the world was always perfect, there would never be any debates about anything and what fun would that be.

Dave, I'm not quite sure what it is you think I don't agree with you about?

My beef has never been about prices. I realize they're all over the place. My beef has been with Craigslist vendors who refuse to acknowledge responses to their ads when they have been sent within an hour (sometimes minutes) of the ads first appearing. Either these people have no freakin' manners or the cars never existed in the first place.
