anyone else had the problem with there clutch chattering a little bit in firt gear when accelerating from a dead stop.  it does not seem to be in any other gears except 1st,  if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

You say it chatters after you've taken your foot off the pedal all the way?!  Or just as you're getting going.

Former - your clutch is way beyond shot.
Latter - it's not dead yet... just giving you a big warning.

yeah only when i get going in 1st gear, could this not be maybe just flywheel chatter?

Call it what you will - but it's the interaction of the clutch and the flywheel!

One, the other, or both are glazed (hot spotted) causing the intermittent grabbing action (the chatter on take up).

Only fix is to pull it all out - resurface the FW, and replace the clutch.
I'd shim the flywheel while you're in there if it looks like it's been shaved a few times already.

   If you are replacing the clutch and want to go with a nearly indestructible clutch, I have one of these on my V8 and Romeo has one on his V6 and we beat the hell out of them and they keep coming back for more abuse.  http://clutchnet.com/home.php - http://clutchnet.com/home.php
