I posted this on Pennocks but I know you guys will have good input so I'm doing a thread here too.

My plan for a custom dash using the stock speaker and defrost vents:

I'm creating a plug to make a mold from.

The gauge pod is still very rough and needs alot of work still

The vents are from a Taurus X

The vent pods are modified Home Depot Plumping section 90 degree bends

That is very cool.
Just make sure the two secondary gauges below the main one (speedo and Tach I presume) are in your line of sight and not blocked by the steering wheel or signal lever.

Would love to see the finished product.

I also like the concept.  It's clean.  I've made several molds over the years and I'm concerned about the "vents".  If it was me, I would make them bolt-on's.  It looks like you're planning on classing them in.

Even if this is a one off, you'll have one hell of a time digging out the insides after applying the first skin.

Same goes for the dash pod.

I'm going to put the plug dash into my parts car to make sure the gauges are in the correct line of sight.   The vent pods and small gauge holes will be filled and the two large gauge pods will have plates inside to put the gauges at the correct angle.  I can make the mold multiple parts that bolt together.  I'll take more pics when I get it in the parts car.  Thanks for the input.

It's going to look so modern, and nice... What gauges are you intending to use? I know I've brought them up probably four and a half dozen times already, but Autoloc will make you a set with any backgrounds, colors, needles, fonts and trims that you want. You could get a sexy Pegasus put in them!

I have speedhut overlays, oil press and volts gauges already, so I bought matching gauges from them.

Might have to buy some warning lights too.

The temp and fuel gauges have warning lights but I'll need turn signals, high beams, check engine, oil, and brake. (I think that covers it) maybe a door ajar light ? :)

Check your finger clearance between the lip of the main gauge pod, and the front of the wheel.

Looks like the tilt isn't tilted - if it was up a bit, you might not be able to turn if your hand was in there.

Who drives their Fiero with the steering wheel tilted up, except for perhaps retired bus drivers?

I did tilt it up and could still steer with out hitting.  But I may recess the pod a little to get some more room there.

As low as it goes.

Is that comment in regards to my question or to the angle of your steering wheel?
