I'm planning to go to all of them with my dad and uncle. It'd be really nice to see some other Fieros out there.

The July 31/August 1 weekend is a two day team event.

Hey Colby...did not know that, how many per
team?...if 4, we could do a WCF team:)...if
you and I, anyone else interested?...can also
co-drive one car:)

I was chatting with Allan today...I hope my
car will be ready by then:)

They're doing teams of 5 drivers, each team needs one novice and one Porsche so that pretty much rules out the possibility of a WCF team.

The three of us are going to make a team. My dad is both a novice and driving a Porsche, so that satisfies both of the requirements. This is my first autox where I'm not considered a novice... still feel like one though. My uncle (Allan) is going to co-drive my car half the time and my dad's car the other half of the time to give us an idea of what they're capable of. This still leaves 2 spots on our team for whoever else, and of course if any more Fieros come out I'm sure they can find teams for them.

If your car isn't ready by then you're welcome to drive mine... just don't expect too much from the duke. Actually now that I think about it, even if your car isn't completely ready it might still be better than mine, lol, as long as your clutch is working properly that is.

Here is Rich's (the guy who handles the PCA autox stuff) post on their forum:
Quote The double header weekend will be our first ever 24 hour enduro team enduro race!

The format will be as follows:

- There shall be teams of 5 drivers formed.

- You may form your teams in advance, however: there must be at least 1 Porsche car on each team, and 1 novice driver on each team.
(novice = 3 or less autocrosses)

- If you arrive without a team, I will assign you to one.

- We shall run the autocross as normal, however, at the end of the day, the total run times of each team shall be added to a team total. This shall then be repeated on the Sunday. The total times for both days shall be all added together, and the team with the lowest total time shall be the champions.

- In the event that a team is short 1 or more drivers, the slowest driver's total runtime will be multiplied as needed for that team. (so make sure all your drivers show up!)
- In the event that there is a team missing a driver on Sunday, and we have an extra Driver without a team, that driver will be allocated to that team.

- Drivers may switch cars as they please, however no driver may take extra runs.

(rules are open to refinement between now and the actual event)

Hot off the PCA site...July 31st I came in 12th out of 62 drivers, and 18th on August 1st with I think 50+ drivers...Not bad for a Fiero, I am very happy with the results...I know there is more that David & John would like to do which we will in time, I want my V710 slicks back, I can shave so much time off with that tread...thanks David & John for getting the car on the road, David busted his ass on this car...Cheers buddy

July 31st results - sorted by best raw time.

August 1st results - sorted by best raw time.

Heh, my car's lack of power really shows on Sunday's results, but I was just 2.111 seconds away from my uncle driving my car. I'm pretty happy with that, considering how much more experienced he is, and if I hadn't messed up my last run I would have been even closer.

I'm looking forward to next weekend, I may co-drive the 914-6. I haven't decided for sure yet though.

This was posted just an hour ago on their forum:

Quote Just in case you missed it, we are having ANOTHER autocross this Sunday, August 8th.

Since last Sunday's course was so popular, I'm going to try to make another one similar to it, but since my lovely assistant is doing her first autocross this Sunday, it'll be a bit more novice friendly. Come one, come all!

Rich

same procedure as always:

Pitt Meadows, BC Driving Centre (Ford & McTavish)

- No pre-registration required - But on-site registration closes at 9am sharp.

- Arrival 7:45-8:00am
- Tech Inspection 8:00am-9:00am
- Mandatory Driver's Meeting at 9:30am
- Wrap up by 4:30pm

- Please bring $40 cash per driver. (no cheques or plastic)
- Novices: Loaner helmets and instruction are available at no charge
- (If you have your own helmet, it must be Snell M2000 or SA2000 or newer.)

- We run regardless of rain or shine!
- Please check the weather before leaving, and come prepared!

- Make sure your car is free of any loose items within.
- Batteries must be BOLTED down securely.

Colby, meet at Mac D's at 7:30am?...here is my cell: 778-836-4806, don't think Allan is going right...I'll chat with him tonight.

I will go, and Tristan, if you are interested you should come and meet us at 7:30am, and see every step of a autox day, from registration to walking the course, etc...so please confirm that you will be coming to attend and be a passenger in my car, park yours:)...or if you will just show up later in the day to visit, or that you won't be showing at all...lol

Patrick, bring that beautiful Husky and visit for as long as you want...most visitors stay for a few hours unless your the other half...lol

Parking onsite, when are driving on Ford Road...YOU MUST DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT OF 50KM!!!!, the main entrance of the driving center is 20kM...please guys as all clubs and the site owner are working with the neighbours, airport authority and RCMP to maintain sound and speed so this location can remain for us!:)...enough on that point:).

Parking, you pull in, to your left is usually a few spots by the potrta washrooms, just make sure you don't park inline by the stop box...you never know, don't want a car injured:).

Here is a link to location and autox details:  http://www.ubcscc.com/autoxfaq.shtml#bcdc - http://www.ubcscc.com/autoxfaq.shtml#bcdc

Brian, what's involved in being registered as a passenger? I'd love to be a passenger in someone's car for a run. (I'd rather be driving of course, but I'll wait until I can attend an event without my canine sidekick before I get behind the wheel.)

Posted By: Bassman
Date Posted: 06 August 2010 at 3:45pm

Nothing, if you are a novice you cannot have a pasenger unless they are instructing you like I could as a senior driver.  There are loaner helmets or bring one if you have it, has to be  SA2000 (Snell)...that's it.

For most events there are 3 run groups and those would consist of 3 runs, then the afternoon = 6 runs.  Now no driving if you don't work the course is a rule, hate thos lazy asses!, Group A is on track, B working, C break...then rotates, etc..

PCA we had only 2 groups which was too much, as a worker we were out for almost 1.5 hours standing and running down cones, etc...lol...hope Sunday is better.

Sure, we'll try it again, hopefully we can both get there in time this time. Depending on how the weather is, my dad and brother will be going again, and I'm pretty sure my uncle is going too.

On the passengers... I don't think they enforce that rule, this is actually the first I've heard of it. Me and my dad rode with each other as novices.

Well, that was a gas!

Those of you who didn't make it (nudge, nudge) missed a great day at the track.

Johnny took a bunch of pictures which will help tell the story, and before I blab on and on about it, it's only fair that Brian and Colby (the club racers) have a chance to post their experiences.

Did I mention that it was a great day at the track?

Posted By: Colby

I am exhausted from the day, but man was it fun. Of course the day some more Fieros show up I don't even have mine with me. Oh well. I had a lot of fun driving my dad's 914 with him, improving on each other's times until he eventually got the better time by half a second.

Anyway, the weather worked out to be OK. I think it scared off some people since there were 40-something drivers compared to last weekend where there was I think 62 the first day then 50 the second day. That combined with getting a slightly earlier start and we got a total of 8 runs each (where it was 5 then 6 last weekend).

Looking forward to seeing the pictures and I hope to see at least one more Fiero driving in September.

Aw, I was hoping for a different whale tail...

Sorry boys, had to help the family out today, but the next event isn't until the fifth? That's like... A month away! Oh well, I'll make sure I'm free for it.

My favorite still frame from Johnny's video...

The only unfortunate part of the whole experience today was that Clynt's dog Sam was trying to launch himself at Frankie repeatedly in what appeared to be an aggressive manner. Sam's usually such a sweet dog. Clynt implied that all Sammy wanted to do was play, but huskies and bulldogs are quite different beasts and Frankie interpreted Sammy's behaviour (rightly or wrongly) as threatening. Being a typical husky, she wasn't going to back down and there were plenty of teeth being displayed all day! No harm came to either dog, but Clynt and I couldn't stand anywhere near each other without canine fireworks!

Turns out that the woman (one of the drivers) in the above picture recognized Frankie. She was the grade 5 teacher for my girlfriend's daugher at http://vsb.bc.ca/schools/jules-quesnel - Jules Quesnel two years ago. Small world! (Truth be told, Frankie is my girlfriend's dog.)

Thanks for shooting the video and posting the pictures, Johnny.

[EDIT] I don't know what's now happened to John's video.

Brian, that was a blast today. Thanks so much for letting me come along as a passenger all those times.

Funny that in the first run on a race track ever for me, you spun your car out! Made a few of those track attendants scramble! Cue the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My5ub7qV2EM - Elvis video again.

And Frankie says you're one cool dude.

Colby, I want thank you and your dad for allowing me go along as a passenger a couple of times with each one of you. That was great fun. First time for me ever riding in a Porsche!

John, sorry I didn't get much of a chance to comment yesterday on your car. Too many distractions with the excitement of going to the track and having the hound with me. The new rear end looks great!

It's interesting looking at the three completely different looking treatments of the tails in this shot of the three Fieros. These really are fun cars to alter and make "personal".

I didn't even notice that shot with different treatments, thanks for pointing that out, nice samples.
I'll be tweaking the rear end again later on

Added note: Thanks Brian for that scary ride

Thanks regarding meeting not last Sat.  As I started to feel better I figured out I was a week ahead! So hope to see everyone THIS SAT. You (Patrick) and others looked as if you had the time of your life on Sunday. (nice to see).

Hey Colby, you and your dad both did well.

And look at Mr Browne... #10 out of a field of 40.

Not bad for a rolling hodge-podge of spare GM parts from the 80's!

Brian couldn't quite catch that '89 Honda Civic though. The Honda wasn't much to look at, but man that ugly thing could scoot!

I was wondering what the heck was going on, so I emailed John to see what was up.

The story as I understand it is that John was asked to edit/alter the video.

So he removed the video he had uploaded to YouTube.

One problem... the day before he had already deleted all his original video clips.

Which means he now has nothing... nada... ziltch.

Any/all video that John had from Sunday is gone.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

This is very disappointing as there was some good stuff from the autocross event.

It also included some interesting interactions between a bulldog and a husky.

Is there any chance that someone here may have downloaded the video from YouTube that John had uploaded?

Or do any of you computer geeks still have it stored (and accessible) in your browser's cache?

I realize it's a longshot, but it's worthwhile asking.
