To save me from stripping my battery terminal screws and the thread in the battery, I bought a cut-off switch.  I bought it from Fierostore, but also found it on ebay for...more.  Lordco stocks the version for the top posts but not the sidepost batteries.

After mounting it neatly, I found there wasn't enough room to thread the positive cable between the engine and battery box, so I had to route the switch over the battery box.  I'll have to work on that as it does look kind of messy.  So when I store the car, I just have to give the knob a quarter turn and the battery is disconnected.  A clean and safe way as I was always aware of the possibility of zapping myself good connecting and disconnecting the battery all the time.

I was thinking about getting that as I store my car over the winter...and my battery is stripped also and hate the thought of when I have to remove it this year or any time in the future

And speaking of storing over winter...  Harbor Freight has small weather proof permanently installed 1.5 (I think) amp chargers for those of you that can get a cord to the car.

Just make sure you install the charger so the cutoff switch doesn't cut off the charger!

Ken does it just twist and turns off, or do you have to unthread it all the way and the joint comes apart.  Just curious.  It it just twists and shuts off like a switch I might buy a couple like that.

Actually, it's a pretty clever design.  The bottom of the knob is a metal plate.  It is that metal plate the makes the connection between the top plate and the bottom one.  So it only takes a quarter turn to connect or disconnect the battery.  Nothing else actually comes off.  Race cars which do not have a proper t-handled battery disconnect use these as emergency can just twist the knob and the electricals are killed.

You can get the top post mount ones at Lordco.  I saw them there.  But they didn't have any of the side post ones.   I got mine from Fierostore, but also saw them on eBay and noticed they lowered the price by $5 from the last time I looked.  With the Canadian dollar being what it is, this looks to be a good price....
