Ive been reading about the stock Iron Duke and seeing all the bad information about it being a weak motor to build up.

So the question is has anybody actually built up the duke and has a build thread for it either with positive or negative results?

In a nutshell - I've only done one.  For what was spent/it cost the guy, I could have almost done a 4.9 swap, and ended up with 2X the HP and about 4X the torque, out of a dead stock, reliable engine.

Unless you've got the Super Duty block (Which stock, you don't), the Duke wont stand up to any significant amount of horsepower, from what I've seen and read.

WELCOME ABOARD Ksim19 !

Also, in a nutshell- if we're talking swaps, compare this...

4.9        Horsepower 200@4400 rpm Torque 275@3000 rpm
3800SC Horsepower 240@5200 rpm Torque 280@3600 rpm

Do you mean "bad" as in not what you wish to hear, or "bad" as in wrong?

'Cause it's not wrong.

Don't be put off by what everyone is saying. We just don't want to see you wasting your time trying to get any power out of a duke.

Be satisfied with what it is... a fairly reliable low horsepower engine to get you from point A to point B. If you desire something other than that, an engine swap is your only feasible choice. Well, either that or another Fiero with a different power plant which already has all the zip you're after.

Again, the basic Duke architecture can be maintained, however, if one is looking for any form of power, the Super Duty block and rotating assembly is about your only option.
