Why are there so many and how do you know which one you

Non AC 84-86: Low amp two wire.

AC 84-86: High amp two wire.

Non AC 87-88: Low amp single wire.

AC 87-88: High amp single wire.

 

Really, the gentleman you're buying from should be able to tell you which one you'll need, although you can swap to a higher amp one for speakers, and you can switch over to single wire for ease of access.
