EVERYONE should watch this video.  It explains how to read the date code on tires.  You wouldn't believe how old some of these "new" tires really are.

In the late 70's the age limit for sale of Pirelli tires was 2 years. Pirelli had a manufacture date stamped on their tires even back then. The tire industry in Canada is more regulated. Most major tire stores have a pretty good turnover rate so tires you buy are probably around 4 years old at the oldest. Canadian Tire would not sell me a tire (Goodyear Eagle GT in 14") for my car because that particular size was discontinued 4 years ago. Even though they only had one in stock in Ontario, the sales guy told me they can't sell it to me.

Fountain Tire (Goodyear) simply said not available.

So this warning might apply more if you plan on buying tires in the US.
