This is last years details, I posted asking fior current information.  I know Colby was interested, this is a great event which I have attended a few years with Team Snoopy...need a name and shirts made, etc.:).

If I had a choice between this and BCCC the day before, I would choose this one as it's a HUGE course using the runway...check it out and let's plan...I hope to have my car tweaked and ready...lol

I'm kind of intrigued by the "team" concept, especially Team Fiero.

There needs to be four drivers from what I understand, and there needs to be one novice, right?

As far as I know, I qualify as a novice as prior to December of 2010, I had only participated in three autocrosses.

So, do I have any value to a team as the designated novice driver? (Please don't give me a bad time, I'm becoming emotionally fragile with only 90 HP at my disposal!)

And before everyone moans and makes fun of the duke, the other option is that I co-drive someone else's Fiero.

Any chance we can work something out?

[EDIT] I should add that in regards to a team needing a "novice", I believe Steve (with his beautiful Northstar powered '88 GT) would also qualify. Hmmm... who do you pick, eh? Pat with his duke or Steve with his Northstar? If Steve's not working, I'll be in the bleachers.

It's a team affair, so you would bring value to the team:)...I emailed Stephanie (Pres of UBCCC) asking for this years details to be posted, it's only a few weeks away and there is nothing that I could fine on their site.

we have three with Colby, you and I...the 4th is what we need, and we know Gary would be a choice candidate or Allan...anyone else interested, speak up

Not me.  I'm allergic to UBC events.

Patrick: co-drive Brian's or Colby's car.  Those will outperform the mighty Duke (sorry) and you can also use that day as a driver comparison which would be very valuable.

I'm planning on attending the BCCC autox and hopefully it'll be the return of the insanely fun Sylvester vs Tweety battles of 2007 and 2008.  I'm trying to get my friend Bob to come play (we have the same car).

I know....that's why I mentioned it.  Here, I'll ask for you.

Brian or Colby, could one of you fine gentlemen please offer a co-drive to Patrick for the reasons I outlined above?

Thanks guys!

Brian, as much as I'd love to drive your car (and maybe I'll still get the chance sometime), from an educational (and historic) standpoint, co-driving with Colby probably makes the most sense. After the two of us having "duked" it out, I'm sure we're both curious how our driving styles compare to each other (Colby's methodical, I'm more on the edge) while driving the same car, and fortunately a car with more power than a duke. Here's our chance!

So Colby, you've got yourself a co-driver.  This should be fun!

Is there one more Fiero who'd care to join us, or will we have to settle for a Porsche?

Here we go, they've posted the details for this year's team enduro:

What's the deal?

The UBCSCC Team Enduro is a once a year event that is easily one of the most memorable events of the year. The Team Enduro is a two-part day: in the morning, everybody runs the course as usual in their usual classes (this is practice!). In the afternoon, the "TEAM" portion of the event begins where in groups of 4, teams get 1 chance at the enduro (3 loops of the course). Each member of the team's indexed score is added to find the lowest team score which is the winner of the event. Don't worry if you don't have a team organized for the event. Come out anyway and we will make sure that you get onto a team! Please post your teams as they are "in progress" in this thread so drivers without teams can join. ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE NOVICE PARTICIPANT!

What's this supersized business about?

Image

We are going BIG for this one! For this date only, the UBCSCC has secured use of the adjacent runway for parking and staging allowing us to use the entire skidpad for autocross goodness! What all this extra space means is that we will have more room to create a longer, faster, more exciting course!

What can we win?
Image
We are proud to announce that in cooperation with our sponsor, http://www.driversedgeautosport.com/" class="postlink - Driver's Edge Autosport , UBCSCC has lined up some great prizes to be won!! Exact details to follow shortly!

Have you got any other cool stuff for us?

We will be holding draws all day for Toyo Tires hats, t-shirts, free UBCSCC autocross events, and a variety of other cool door prizes!

Okay, we're excited, how do we sign up?

For registration info please continue to the next post:

A brief writeup and results of our last autocross are on the BC Corvette Club blog, check it out at http://www.bccorvetteclub.blogspot.com - www.bccorvetteclub.blogspot.com . - "36 drivers enjoyed the slalom challenge at the Pitt Meadows Driving Centre on a sunny Saturday.  In addition to Corvettes, we had Porsche’s, Fiero’s, etc., even a Lotus Elan which was sporting a set of large slick tires."

Yeah, that would be wonderful. As part of a team at the Enduro on Sunday, I'd feel a lot more comfortable at that event after having some seat time in your car on Saturday. This will be great.

At the restaurant we seemed to be focused on the color red, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but keep in mind the two Fieros and one Porsche are all also two seaters and mid/rear engined and rear wheel drive.

Do we want a "cute" name like the Redegades ?

Or a cryptic name like RED RWD FTW ?

Or... ?

David will be pre-occupied, I suspect, with his family situation. I haven't seen Austin in forever, but it'd be awesome if he came out. Actually, if anyone from the club wants to come out, I'd strongly suggest going for it, it's one hell of an experience.

A shame the Mustang ain't ready, could've joined up with the pony car team.

I can't really join any teams yet though anyways, as I'm still not sure if I'll be done in time (I hope, but I don't want to confirm and then ruin someone else's experience).

ok. here is a quick one. i have shown it in colour and also, in a black and white for the iron on stuff as i don't think the colour will carry off too well over a red shirt.

thoughts?

I also love it...is there a way to add the WCF logo on maybe a arm?.  I like the black outline, any thoughts for the back, maybe the name?.

Thanks for this Gary...

Not going to make either now. Engine is seized, so I'll definitely not be done in time to make that weekend.

Yep. Posted out a want ad in the club forum, but I don't think I'll have an engine within a reasonable enough time frame to be ready in time for either event.

Yes Brian, http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2636&PN=1&TPN=2 - there's something now that needs to be discussed.

It's not the end of the world, but it certainly affects our day on Sunday.

So, with the very recent developments of the day, The Smokin' Tomatoes have had to change up our plans a bit.

Originally, Brian and Gary were to be driving their own cars, while Colby and I were to be co-driving Colby's '88 Formula. However...

Colby and Gary will now be co-driving the Porsche, while I'll be co-driving Brian's GT.
Seeing as how Brian's GT is probably the fastest Fiero on a local track, I'm feeling pretty stoked!

Should be a great day. Let's hope everyone's car survives intact!

First of all, I want to say that I had a great time with Brian and Colby and Gary today.

We had a lot of fun with the Smokin' Tomatoes theme. Other participants appreciated the fact that we had matching team red T-shirts with the Smokin' Tomatoes logo on them.

Thanks to Gary for supplying the T-shirts and the door logos!

Thanks to Brian for allowing me to co-drive his car. Lots of fun!

And thanks to Colby because we have a good-natured rivalry as relative newcomers to the sport of autocross.

Now what I didn't like. (You might've suspected this was coming.)

There were WAY too many participants.

We each got TWO runs in during the morning practice session and one, yes ONE measly run in the afternoon (when the times actually counted).

This was at a cost of $60 (compared to $40 yesterday with the Corvette Club for NINE runs.)

So we were each on the track for about five minutes total.

Perhaps I should rephrase that. We had about five minutes of driving time on the track, but we each spent at least three hours (morning and afternoon combined) baking on the track in the hot sun chasing pylons.

Not worth it.

Well, it was worth it ONCE for fun memories with some real good guys, but I highly doubt I would ever do this event again unless they capped the number of participants at about HALF of what it was today.

Fellow tomatoes, do you agree?

i agree Patrick. too long a day for me. a nice memory though. i will soon forget the hot sun and the way my back felt and only remember the team, the clean runs we had and the smell that wafted in every direction from the portable toilets

Good point, Gary. I forgot to mention the clean runs.

Since we only had ONE crack at the official run in the afternoon, there was a LOT of pressure not to screw up, as screwing up would bring the whole team down (time-wise), not just the individual. I'm proud to say that none of us even so much as hit a pylon, let alone spun out or missed a gate. As the last driver, Colby had the most pressure as I'm sure he didn't want to be the one responsible for lowering our team time after the first three of us made it around the track (four laps) with no mishaps.

Of course, the problem with ONE crack at the official run was that there was no chance to try anything different. Here I was driving Brian's nice fast race-prepped GT for the first time, and I had no real opportunity to see how hard I could push it (or myself). Man, it was frustrating!

Seat time is everything, and seat time was sorely lacking at this event.
