Hi everyone, this is to
advise that our next autocross at the BC Driving Centre in Pitt Meadows
is on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Registration will open at 8AM and cost
is $40 per driver. At our last event everyone had 7 runs and had lots
of fun. Please let me know if you plan to attend so that I can control
the numbers and ensure lots of runs. A brief writeup and results of our
last autocross are on the BC Corvette Club blog, check it out at http://www.bccorvetteclub.blogspot.com/ - www.bccorvetteclub.blogspot.com .

I will try to make it to this one, so far the car is still running and shifting fine, but haven't had time to take it for a longer test drive.
Do we just register and pay on the morning of?

Take her to that Scottish restaurant Gary mentioned. They sell burgers.
If my friend Bob gets the ok from Vic (in addition to his wife), then he'll be coming too. We'll have the first Tweety vs Sylvester reunion in 3 years!
Colby: this would mean having Sushi for lunch. Wanna try it?

I'm looking real forward to co-driving Colby's 5-speed '88 Fiero Formula tomorrow. It'll be a great warmup for Sunday's team event with The Smokin' Tomatoes.
Believe it or not, in the 17 years that I've owned and driven Fieros, I have never driven (to the best of my memory) a 2.8 powered manual tranny Fiero.
The dukes have all been manuals, but my GT is an automatic.
This should be good fun!

It was a hot and fun day, but not without consequences.
Colby and I started the day co-driving his '88 Formula. We finished the day co-driving my '84 duke.
I'll let Colby (or Gary) expand on this...

Yes, something up with the Formula's engine. It starting during my fourth run of the morning. I noticed part way through my run that there was a new noise coming from the car, when I got to the stop box, the car stalled and I couldn't start it back up, the car had no power. We rolled it forward to make room for the next car coming and inspected it.
Turns out when I put the battery back in a couple days ago I didn't connect the battery terminals securely enough, so I tightened them up, started up the car and went back into grid for my next run. When I went back out there it became obvious that there was more wrong with the car than just the loose battery terminals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC_av8ONgws - Here's the video of that run. You can hear the noise the engine is making. We decided at lunch to park my car and drive Patrick's duke for the rest of the day. I did get the car home safely, driving it very gently, and I'm quite glad now that I was unmotivated to sell the duke since now I still have a car I can drive and I don't need to do anything with my Formula immediately.
Aside from that, the day was good. Less drivers out this time so we ended up getting 9 runs total. I have a video of Patrick driving my car (as well as some of him trying to figure out how to use the camera ) and took a picture of the times, I'll post both shortly.

I was on the track chasing cones (as Colby and I were in different groups) and it was VERY obvious to me during Colby's 4th run that something seriously wrong had just occured with Colby's car towards the end of the run. It sounded bad, real bad, like a loose rod. When I saw his car being pushed from the stop box, I figured that was because Coby had shut 'er down and had called it a day. I was shocked, yes honestly SHOCKED when Colby came back out for his 5th run. The poor car sounded really bad out on the track where I was located. (The video doesn't do the knocking justice.)
Anyway, during the lunch break we all agreed that continuing to run Colby's car in the afternoon was just a disaster waiting to happen.
I'm afraid the 2.8 in Colby's Formula has developed some serious bearing issues.

Couldn't they put an "idiot light" on the front of that thing so you'd know whether it was recording or not?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like. I feel like I'm all over the place, desperately trying to hang on, while you look quite controlled and smooth.

That's exactly what you can see in the video. It's obvious you're trying to go through certain parts of the course with too much speed and going wider around the cones as a result.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm50sWceTwY - Here's the video. And here are the times:

OMG, I was all over the place desperately trying to hang on! (But it was fun!)
Don't let Brian see this video. He might change his mind about letting me co-drive his car tomorrow.
Seriously though, when I see how bad my technique is, I'm surprised my times were as decent as they are (although to be honest, that particular run I was more out of control than usual).

Yes, it was a great day, although Colby probably doesn't feel too thrilled at the moment.
I really appreciated being able to drive Colby's Formula the five opportunities that I had in the morning before things went south with his engine. Hopefully a few of us can help put Colby's car back together so that it's better than it ever was. That's what a car club is all about, right guys (and gals)!
