Hey, this is more for our hot-rodders in the group:

I was browsing through the Blower Shop at 1:30am which of course had fantastic results... I'm now debating saving up and possibly picking one up for the big block. Before I do, however, I was wondering if the 6-71 would be big enough to push enough air for the 454 (Which will eventually be getting stripped down and bored out, so there'll be even more displacement to worry about). The 6-71 is on special, you see, which makes it attractive if it's usuable. If an 8-71 would be needed, I will have to shelf the dream for a little while, as it isn't on sale, which means it's almost double the cost of it's smaller sibling.

And before anyone freaks out and tries to say something logical here, with the larger tires going on the 454 soon, it'll be losing some torque at the wheels. And that just isn't acceptable, so I came to the obvious conclusion that a blower was necessary. Also, it'll be easy(ish), as the 454 has really low compression from the factory. It's pretty much a win-win.

you should talk to Bill at B&N he had a vortech charger on his 454 ss that i took off, he might have it sitting around still and would probably sell it for a decient price...

The Vortech is still there, if I'm not mistaken. Still, not as enthralled by it as I am the 6-71. For one thing, I don't much care for the way centrifugals sound (I prefer the obnoxious whine of a positive displacement at WOT). Then I have the problem of the power band: The Vortech makes all it's power up high, I want all low end grunt for tow duty (The vehicle's main purpose). There's also the logistical issue of the fact the Vortech sits up front; My engine is almost half behind the glass because there's no room up front (Meaning there'd be no room for the intake), then I'd also have to get the intake to match, and then somehow modify my fuel delivery and throttle. The 6-71 though, I can just pretty much throw everything on top of it.
