Yes it was a great day. Danny got his front brakes done, and a new belt installed. Tim got his coil swapped. Rob did a lot of tweaking and work, but in the end I don't think anything got sorted out. We were able to find out what parts are working, but not the root cause of a trunk that won't pop.
Tim got his coil swapped around so its not just laying on top of the bad coil.
I had great intentions of tearing down my V8 until my compressor blew a unique fitting that will have to be either made by someone or brought in mail order from the manufacturer. (Briggs and Stratton Compressor)
David new member came over with his 87GT later in the evening and we were tracking down a lack of power. Found his timing was set at Zero degree's maybe even 2 degrees ATDC so we moved that up to 14 degrees BTDC. Which totally changed the cars handling. On the test drive he mentioned his gas gauge did not work, as I was questioning a noisy howl from the car. He said it has lots of gas in it, he's only gone 250kms since his last fill up. At this point my eyes popped out of my head and spun the car around for the gas station. It took 39 liters to fill it up. I then explained that with spirited driving 200 was about the max to expect in town. His tach also reads high, his temperature gauge is totally whacked out reading into the red when in fact the car is at 180F as measured by both a scan tool and my laser thermal meter.
Car is in REALLY good shape interior is nice, just needs some electrical gremlins sorted out. Previous owner replaced the motor, which runs nice, BUT did dumb things like put the heads on backwards, which located the sender for the temp gauge over near the battery. So instead of moving the sender they cut the wires and ran them over to the other corner of the block. Also wiring is in the wrong places (routed wrong for other major things) So with some TLC this car could be a show winner, once an experienced Fiero mechanic spends some time with it.
Did anyone else but me manage to get a heck of a sunburn? I am so torched today that my face feels like its on fire.
