PORSCHE CLUB CANADA WEST REGION - May27TH 2012 AUTOCROSS EVENT - SINGLE pad event

Single pad event?

I don't understand. Why isn't the whole pad being used. (The fee is the same as last time, which of course was a double-pad event.)

The two different sides of the pad are owned by two different organizations. Sometimes things don't work out and they can't secure both sides for the day.

The price is actually the same as last year's, there's just an extra 12% for HST. So the previous double pad events were really good deals.

Well, I'm quite disappointed that the whole double-pad won't be used this time, but I signed up nevertheless.

For anyone else who may be interested in going, registration cut off time is 3 PM on Saturday for Sunday's event.

Good day for autocross. A little cool under the clouds in the morning, but lots of sun in the afternoon. I think both Colby and I represented the Fiero community well. I just need me some sticky tires.

Colby, I think you should post the video of your run where I supply a bit of commentary.

It was a good day, and I don't think the smaller pad made things any less fun.

I managed to get what I feel was a pretty good run, but we'll see when the times go up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xElxMh92dnw - Here's the video .

Aw come on Colby, you must have a more interesting one than that! All we can hear in this video is wind noise!

Guess rolling up the passenger window helps the wind noise more than I realized, and I forgot the mount for my phone so there's no data to overlay.

That does it, I'm telling your dad to ground you for a week!

Results are http://members.shaw.ca/rsandor/autox3_may27fin.html - Here .

I'm pretty stoked. In a field of 39 cars, the 'ol duke beat seven other cars outright, and four more cars were less than a second faster through the course. How's that for a 90 HP weakling on street tires!

Oh yeah, Colby did good too.

Good job guys...the weather turned out real nice for you...I was working hard on finishing bathroom baseboards and other home improvements...lol

After running on the double pad, how did they seperate it and have two different groups running, or just the other pad not included in the rental this time?

Patrick complained about my wind noise also...lol

Nice tight course, short though it seemed, no double loops

The new pad still had all the cones on it from the Justice Institute (or whomever uses it) and we just basically stayed clear of that pad (which wasn't being used by anybody at the time).

As Colby said though, we still had a lot of fun on the one pad.

One thing I wanted to mention was that I really enjoyed the people themselves at the event yesterday. We had a good bunch of fellas working together at the same station out on the track. There was Colby and myself, obviously fine Fiero guys , and we also had with us an older guy driving a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette, a younger guy driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla, and another older guy driving a 2001 Porsche 996 Turbo. Everyone was really enjoying the day. We had fun talking while doing track duty, and when it was our group's turn to drive there was a friendly rivalry trying to better each other's times. There's another fella with a 2001 Porsche Boxster that I've gotten to know at the last couple of events (his first season), and he's dramatically improved his times with a bit of encouragement ("Step on the gas!") from myself and others. This is what autocross is all about.
