There's another Autocross next weekend, on the Saturday. It's the same day as the club meeting, but the event will be wrapped up by 4:30, so no need to worry about missing the meeting to attend:

Quote Just a reminder that the BC Corvette Club is hosting an Autocross at Pitt Meadows on July 14.  Registration at 8AM and the cost is $40 per driver.  We also need volunteers for timing, etc.  If you plan to come out please email me with your car make, model and color.  We will be using the Justice Institute course on the new pavement.  Thanks, Vic

The email is vnightscales AT aim DOT com

With Brian's nice R888's on my car, you know that the mighty duke and I will be there on Saturday.

It's worthwhile repeating ('cause I know I've mentioned it before), but the Corvette Club puts on a very "relaxed" autocross. And I think these guys have a soft spot for Fieros, their orphaned "cousins" from GM.

So if you're a first timer and you're interested in seeing what autocross is all about, this is probably the best event to attend if you don't want to feel any pressure.

As Colby has posted above, Vic Nightscales of the http://www.bccorvetteclub.ca/index_files/events.htm - Corvette Club would love to hear from you at mailto:vnightscales@netscape.net - vnightscales@netscape.net   or 778-593-1180 if you'd like to come out.

If anyone decides at the last moment to try out autocross for the first time, they can just turn up tomorrow at the track in Pitt Meadows.

As stated earlier, the Corvette Club events are very casual, and they'd be happy to let you sign up at the last moment - 8 am Saturday.

It's going to be a perfect day for autocross!

Good point Gary, there are extra helmets at the track for people to use.

We enjoy taking newbies along for a ride (except I usually spin the car when I have a passenger).

Well, I'm bagged...

It was a good day. The whole Johanson clan was there... Gary, Colby, Riley, Uncle Al.

Charles and Sean were up from the States on other business, but also dropped by for a few hours.

Brian's R888 tires continued to impress. When I wasn't knocking over cones, my times were pretty good.

Colby beat me again, but it was close.

A good time was had by all (edit: except when Colby's engine boiled over).

ok. here are a couple of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mv4K01YWRQ&feature=youtu.be - this is Colby and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44CU6XRRERI&feature=youtu.be - this one is me.

we will look into the fan relay issue on Colby's car asap. the relay will be replaced and the wire from the sender will be fully examined. but all in all, it was a minor burp from the cooling system.

my motor can be heard making a noise at launch that i will investigate. it may be a fuel starvation issue (= more power)

You guys drove well at the autox. Colby was super
aggressive during the slaloms and drove a tight line
(from my worker station vantage point). Good to see.

I was quite rusty and it showed in my early runs.

Gary, the biggest difference between you and me was that
you were a little late getting on the gas after the turns
due to line choice, a couple places where I'd be on the
gas longer, and one of the biggest was probably the
"optional" chute chicane thing where I was full throttle
inside it and you waited until the exit.

Your car is a hoot to drive and those tires work very
well. Great handling with mild understeer when pushing
it in the G-circle that was easy to modulate with the
throttle. I love it!

Thanks Allan. (The cheque is in the mail.)

I'm really enjoying myself at these autocrosses. I'm starting to "see" the different lines through parts of the course and then experimenting with slightly different routes... with not always positive results!  I just wish we could get more runs in at each event to sort these options out. (We got seven runs yesterday and six last weekend.)

I also enjoy witnessing everyone else improving their driving each time out, and it's great to see the vehicles themselves being improved upon. Gary's 914/6 is so unique, and I can tell after a ride in Colby's Formula that the engine overhaul has made a world of difference. Nice acceleration! This gives me a lot of impetus to get the 4-spd '86 Fiero GT that I've been working on track-worthy.

We just need to get Brian out there again!

Patrick, once you get your tires, and Brian has his back, then we can
gang up on Bri to get out there.

It will be glorious!

Glad to see everyone had fun again, I will try to make to make it out
again soon.

At the meeting Dave mentioned that the jaguar club does autocross in
a parking lot by a surrey skytrain station. Apparently they use the same
lay out each time, which would be nice to be have time to learn the
track properly.
I think there he said there is more info at

Just to clarify something.  The events are part of the Jaguar group, Vancouver Underground is basically a bunch of performance orientated guys that are into both street and track racing.  They are active in the Jag events and have asked if any of the Fiero guys would be interesting in join in BOTH the Jag Auto cross and their own personal club runs.  I have reviewed both forums and found them to be rather small in comparison to the traffic we have.   So I am not sure if it is simply a lack of computer tech people or what, the best way is to go to an event and report back here.
