Howdy everyone. As David is well aware, I absolutely
DETEST the "performance" four-speed that is currently
bolted up to Gretchin's new heart (Seriously, it has zero
redeeming qualities) which means behind brakes and an
alignment, a new transmission is the next on my list of
things to take car of.

Now, anyone who has spent two minutes with me knows I
like to jump straight in to the "obscene and over-the-
top" end of the scale with things, which means I'm
looking at doing an F40 Six-Speed swap. I had a few
questions for the more technically minded of you:

The V8 Archie Economy Conversion comes with custom
axles... Yet it says I'll need to buy G6 axles as well.
    Why is that?

The Transmission uses a digital output instead of a gear-
drive, anyone know if there's a way of getting them to
    play nice?

The flywheel from a G6 and a Fiero are 0.16" different in
outside diameter, and have identical inside diameters.
Does that mean a SPEC Alumnium flywheel could still be
    bolted up to it?

The G6 transmission weighs 112ibs, does anyone happen to
know the weight of the four-speed?

I recognize there's a lot of questions there, but to
anyone who answers, thanks in advance!

For the speedo, there's a simple circuit to wire up between the digital
vss and the Fiero speedo that will get it all to play nice. I had to do it for
my trans swaps, costs about 3$ for components and takes 5 minutes to
make.

I can find a diagram when I get home but it's easily googled. And on
gmtuners site.

Check out the pennocks forums on my cars F40 swap.

http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum3/HTML/000030.html

It is quite involved.
The calibration has been an issue for me, it works with a dakota digital but that causes interference which causes the speedo and tach to bounce causing the idle to bounce around at times. I suggest simply going with a GPS speedo and eliminate the issue all together. That's my next move.
It is a known problem with Dakota calibrators and I got zero help from them when I tried to contact them, they did not even return my email requests for help.

Hoefully pennocks will answer a few questions.

I forgot the f40s output a different signal then the f23 and 4t60s do. The
gmtuners circuit won't work then.

And if your going through the effort of the f40 swap, why not replace the
engine while your at it?

I actually like the vulgar V6 in the Fiero, I've no desire to change it out
on Gretchin. Just the transmission I absolutely loathe.

Just do an Isuzu swap. Great gearing, and it's a drop in (virtually).  Way cheaper too.

I have to agree with the Dr.
Check the F40 gearing to make sure it is what you want.
My first gear is pretty low but i have the power and revs to make it
useable.
The trannies are pricey and the swap a lot of work.
Make sure you get a newer trans as the first couple years had a design
flaw that caused the shifter fork to rattle at idle in neutral. I have this
issue, it doesn't affect the trans, it is just an annoying noise. If you don't
mind the issue you may be able to pick up an older one a little cheaper.

Any reason you don't want to just swap in an F23? It seems
like everyone who has one likes it; speaking from personal
experience it shifts nicely although I'm still waiting on a
couple parts to put it in my Fiero.
