Anyone have a new A/C style heater core they wish to sell or trade? Mine just puked coolant all over the floor today. Of course it happens just a few weeks after I flushed the system and put all new anti-freeze in.

I believe in having "extra" Fiero stuff around, and I've got a brand new heater core here... but it's for a non-A/C system. So if anyone wants to do a straight trade, that would be cool.

For anyone who doesn't know the difference between the two, here's a picture I took a few years ago. The A/C heater core style that I need is on the right. I have a brand new non-A/C heater core in the box here that looks like the one on the left.

I'll just order from RockAuto if there's nothing available locally. Fortunately, I've got other vehicles to drive if the Formula is out of commission for awhile.

The dash doesn't need to come out. It's not bad actually. I've done it several times before, and posted about it http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=966&KW - HERE .

As "frugal" as I am, I wouldn't be interested in grabbing a used heater core from the wrecking yard. They rot out fast enough starting with a new one!

I just thought if someone had a new one kicking around for an A/C system, and they could use one for a non-A/C system, we could trade. Not likely I imagine, but stranger things have happened!

Joe, you have a good Christmas as well.

There was a place in Langley Port Kells area on 96th Ave near 200th street, that was the best price around for Fiero Heater Cores. IIRC it was 38 bucks, vs Lordco and Napa at nearly 100 bucks. I installed on in my Mothers Fiero and it has been perfect. I also did one in my 88GT about 5 years ago and its still good. I still highly recommend 1 gallon anti freeze, one 500ml bottle of water wetter and the rest distilled water. Works great and really helps on cold winter mornings when you want/need heat quickly.

I wanted to return to this thread and mention the final outcome.

I priced heater cores at Lordco just out of curiosity. As can be seen in the image I posted up at the top of the page, there are two types of heater cores for Fieros depending on whether a core for an AC or non-AC equipped Fiero is required.

The price at Lordco for a non-AC equipped Fiero heater core (with club discount) is $105. Typical rip-off Lordco price.

The price at Lordco for an AC equipped Fiero heater core (with club discount) is $36.  Very un-typical Lordco price. *(see below)

Fortunately I required a heater core for an AC equipped Fiero.

The local VAP on Commercial Drive matches prices, so I convinced them to match Lordco's price and bought it there (along with a new thermostat-housing cap).

I can't say I'm impressed with what these new Spectra Premium heater cores look like. They're all aluminum (no copper) and the core area is also a little bit smaller than OEM.

This means they don't seal all that well around their perimeter when installed in the heater box (without adding a lot of foam weather-stripping), but even with the "blow-by" of unheated air, they provide sufficient heat.

Anyway, it turned out to be a relatively inexpensive repair. Now to figure out what's loose in my suspension...

*There's actually another level of discount (that I was made aware of but couldn't get) that would've lowered the price of this heater core to $25.  I suspect Lordco picks these units up for about $10-$12... and with no discount to the guy off the street, charges these poor suckers $52.
