Got off work to find some most likely tweeker or street person did a great hack job trying to get into my 1984 Indy Pace car Fiero. They totaly demolished the key entry to trunk and tumbler assembly. They also ground out some of the surronding plastic near key hole. The tumbler is a total loss. Plastic and metel all torn apart. I had to even drill to get into my trunk as my electric switch in car has not worked in ages. What a mess!

I can see it appears I must not replace complete assembly and have a key for new (used) assembly. First question. How hard is it to find a new tumbler and is it an easy replacment????

Next, what plastic type patch can I use to patch out where they dug into the body plastic around keyhole? I have stuff I use for my boat. Will this work? (fiberglass putty type)

Do I have to replace complete trunk assembly or just a new tumbler and keyfobe? does the black plastic ring come on it>? THe plastic that is on outside circle where key entry meets body?

Thanks.

Tod in Marysville Wa.

You don't want to use Fibreglass, because it is not as flexible as the body panels. You can get tumblers from the Fiero store, if not anywhere else. I think I saw the surrounds and stuff on there also.

Very sorry to hear about the damage :(

The decklid itself is actually fibreglass (as is the front hood, and the roof panel).

NAPA carries a GM replacement lock set.

Sounds like you might just be better off finding a replacement decklid (all 84 notchbacks are the same) and painting it.
