Who's putting carseats or booster seats in their Fiero? I'd like to be able to take my 3yo out for errands in it, not sure of the legality of it in Canada or best practices. Anybody else tried this out?

PS long time no see, but I'm getting my GT back up and running - just in time to move to the Sunshine Coast. Was down with a bad fuel pump for longer than I thought it'd take, but had a lovely drive today (despite learning the VSS had failed). It's good to be back Party

Of course the Capt. was on this back in 2011:

Quote The laws in BC are that children can not ride in the front seat of any car with a front airbag. However providing the car does not have rear seats and the airbag can be turned off its OK. IE Pickup Trucks/Fiero's and other vehicles with only 2 seats. The law was made for 2 reasons. 1st was safety and 2nd was so that mothers did not have the desire to put them in the front and then constantly look over at them while driving.

My daughter has been riding around in my Fiero since she was 6 months old. First in her rear facing car seat and now in her front facing car seat. She is now 14 months old.

And YES I would MUCH rather have my daughter in the front seat of a Fiero than in just about any sub compact car. I have seen a dodge neon get T-Boned and it caved in the passenger compartment way more than a Fiero does.

Our other Vehicle is a 96 Chevy Blazer 4wd and my daughter is buckled in the middle of the rear bench seat.

I'm not sure if anything may have changed, would still be interested in discussion on the matter :)

Hi my kids drive my Fiero, but I think back in the day-80s Kids did Ok in cars, they were built a lot more heavy I think.
If I had to choose? Over a modern car-Smart or Fiat 500 the Honda Fit they are all real small,an no match for a Fiero.
The Space frame is crash tested to no end an passed every thing they required to make it safe for everyone to ride in.
I think your child would be fine in the right seat for his size, would Love to go for a spin I bet! Even to the park to play.
Cheers

Hi and welcome back.

Fieros existed before there were airbags so you're okay to put your kid in the front seat.   If it's just a booster seat, not a problem at all.

If you need to put in a car seat that needs an anchor for a tether strap, there is an place where you can bolt in an anchor.  I'll have to look that up for you.   Baby seat anchor points were manditory even back in the early 80's.  You still need to buy that anchor though.

I found a scan of the anchor installation guide - trying to figure out the seatbelt now. I seem to need a "belt shortening clip" but haven't had any luck finding one so far. Based on this US site, I need to go talk to a child seat specialist to get one: http://www.carseatsite.com/lockingclips.htm
I'll have to contact BCAA for that, I'll report back if they're able to hook me up.
