Just found out im getting about $800 back from my income tax, now
normally id save it but i really want to do something fun this year lol
My 87 GT is completely stock, 155,000km's, so lets go from there. Im thinking one or more of the following:
1.
New suspension all around from the fierostore (anyone have an estimate
on total cost?)(is it a bad idea to do this pre-engine swap? ) 2. Get parts towards 3.4DOHC swap (not sure how far $800 will get me though) 3. Lower, rims (nothing expensive), brake upgrade 4. Mild sound system, nothing too fancy 5. ???
Throw some idea's at me (dont tell me to save it lol, this ones for fun )
My total budget could be a little more than $1200 if i put some more of my $$ towards it.

Poly bushings 200 bucks
Lowering Springs 200 bucks
Rear sway bar 50 bucks if you use a 2nd front bar on the back.
That would leave you about 350 for some second hand rims and rubber, or a high flow cat, or some engine upgrades, like
MSD Blaster II Coil 60 bucks
MSD Super Conductor Red 8.5mm Plug wires, 120 bucks
Port stock exhaust manifolds and new gaskets 120 bucks
The Coil, Wires, and porting will open up about 15hp. There are lots of other semi cheap mods you can do. If your current ignition system is below par, you will see even more gains. However the manifolds alone are worth 10hp.
As for the 3.4tdc swap, it is an awesome swap, but 800 bucks won't get you that far.

great suggestions! Where are you getting the prices from tho? If your going by the fierostore prices then the shipping isn't counted, and that will add up. Where are the sway bars for $50? I assume your talking from junkyards correct? Would a new distributer help much for gains? Thats the only original part of my ignition system. Also, where would you recommend i look for used rims?

Most of the prices are from Performance Parts Centre here on the mainland.
http://www.captfiero.com/ppc - Performance Parts Centre
Most performance parts, can be bought locally for a great savings vs what you pay at The Fiero Store. The Fiero store has lots of cool unique parts, but for general engine parts they are far too expensive.

Suspension I can help with that:)...you have to consider how far you want to go and replace everything, or what needs to be done.

Honestly the Rodney Dickman product is so much better, and if you want to rebuild your steering rack I have the brass bushing he sells for an upgrade.
For the sway bars, FS has a heavy duty one that rocks, or you can do what Cpt suggested...how are your shocks?
Once you have all the parts, etc...shocks & lowering springs...then install costs, but well worth the investment...and you can do this in peices.

well im going to try and tackle the install myself, there enough documentation that it shouldn't be too bad. Im not sure how far i really want to go with the suspension at this point, i know i want to lower it, so shocks and springs. Now, what kind of difference will i notice between the $50 sway bar that capt suggested, vs the FS one? Im not into autocross or anything.. Now, while im on the topic, i find that when im at higher speeds (lets just say, higher than highway speeds and leave it at that :P), the front end feels a little sloppy. I inflated all my tires to the correct PSI and that helped a little, but it still feels kinda loose. Is that the problem involving the air pocket, and that i need a hood vent?
Im not gunna worry bout that atm cuz i rearly reach those speeds, but id like to know anyhow. Im also thinking of adding the rodney dickman short shifter, as its cheap enough and will add a little something extra i think. Other cheaper mods i think ill try to tackle are tinting the taillights. Not over the brake lights, just enough so you cant read "PONTIAC" when the car is off. Might look for some tinted windows as well (the rear ones, i forget the name atm). Man, all day at work i was thinking of mods i want to do lol :P So many ideas, not enough $$ :(

Unless you are putting the car on a track the spare front sway bar mounted to the back is the way to go.
As for the short shifter, talk to Blair on these forums and for about 1/2 the price of Rodney he can do one for you. Plus shipping should be a great deal less.
The front end looseness is exactly what you expect, and I would highly recommend front vents. Even if you do the simple Turbo Sunbird vents like I have on my 85GT. Install is a piece of cake. I was having issues with the headlight doors popping over at speeds between 160kph and 200kph. With the vents, I was able to sustain 180 without issue and only when going over 200 and hitting a slight head wind gust did I have the doors come open on me. This also aided in cooling of the radiator as the hot air has a much easier path to escape from the radiator.

ya, my only issue is that i dont have knowhow to install one, or how to paint it after. I think ill hold off on that mod till im ready to paint, then ill include the stage 2 side vents :D Hmm.. actually, If im doing a peice as small as the stage 2 vents, how hard would it be to color match it to my GT? Its the stock, maroon color, but i dont know the color code.
