no not the Formula, thank god.

The 87 GT just got smashed up though .  Was parked on the side of the road and got rear ended my a minivan, went from the road to being on the sidewalk.

It looks like the frame is bent so it will probably be written off, musta taken quite a hit.

its been reported to ICBC and the cops were on the scene so i guess we'll see how this plays out.

btw, anyone know how to go about buying the car back, there are some parts on there I would like to keep on hand.

not sure what else to say, still processing what just happend.

Aww that's a real bummer.   At least you weren't hurt.   Hope things get sorted out quickly.

Yeah, it could've been much worse, it was parked along side a heavily traveled sidewalk.  I'm just glad it was there rather than some person. I actually found out about the crash from a man a couple doors down from us who was out for a walk in the same area.

Settling with icbc and buying the salvage right to your car are two seperate transactions, but you should be able to negotiate both at the same time with the adjuster. If its going to be writen off, be prepared to justify what you think your car is worth. Icbc will probably repair it if the damage is less than 75% of their estimated value. (Argue their value if you think its low) A cash settlement may be as high as the estimated damage up to a maximum of the average replacement value, but rarely higher, unless (Again) you can prove your car is worth more. The salvage can be bought from icbc for about 10% or less of the settlement value.

Your experience may be different but all the above is from my personal experience from a few years back. My car initial value was 3500 with 5000 damage, after argued and reviewed value went up to 4500 but still written off. I got 3300 in settlement and then paid 200 for the salvage rights to the car. still wasnt happy as my car was in pcs and the settlement was still low in my opinion. (but i got a lot of great parts back, stereo, wheels, tires, etc. which ive used on the cars)

From my recent experience with my Lumina getting totaled, you can no longer buy back the hulk unless you're a licensed shop.

They say it's to prevent more wrecked cars from being parked at peoples houses...  yeah, whatever...  I just wanted to yard the engine out and toss the rest!  They didn't care.

This was at a Surrey claims office about 2 months ago.

YMMV.

Yeah, I was fearing that, when i phoned in the claim they were saying that they dont "like" to do that because they dont want unsafe vehicles on the road... even though I said I just wanted to pull some parts off of it they wouldnt say anything along the lines of "we could probably do that" or anything, they just noted that I wanted it.   there's deffinitly some parts I would like to grab though if theres any way I can get them,

If they're aftermarket parts, just pull them off and replace them with stock.  Unless the part(s) were part of the determination of value....

I yanked the CD deck out of my car, and stuffed an old stock non working thing in there.  Didn't rewire it or anything even!  They don't care - it won't affect the scrap value of it.  It just has to look like its "right" or more or less "right".

That really sucks, but glad you are alright and glad it was the 87 and not the Formula.    Hopefully you can get ICBC to work with you on it and come out ahead.   When you are dealing with ICBC let them know that you got the car cheap because it needed work, and that you have already had a lot of work done to the car.  Make them pay you at least replacment value you on the car, stress that the car is a Rather Rare, BLUE 87GT 5spd.

If all else you should buy that 87GT that needs a clutch.  $700 I posted it to the club email list.
