Normally I would've posted this a few days sooner, but I've been rather distracted since last Tuesday with a painful sprained right wrist. However, the drugs (Ketorolac) are doing their job, and I anticipate being able to participate on Sunday. However, this would be a great opportunity for Tristan to come out and try to beat the Mighty Duke. I may have to shift with my teeth, but I'd be ready for the challenge. I originally was also going to have my girlfriend's 16 year old daughter (Alannah) come out and co-drive the Mighty Duke at this event. But I think she's just a little bit too inexperienced to try it yet. She's only driven on city streets a handful of times, and at this point she's only driven a manual tranny once. Might be a little bit too much pressure on her to drive on Sunday, but I believe she and her mom (Anne) will be coming out on Sunday to observe. You all have my permission to take Alannah and/or Anne out for a spin at the track and scare the bejesus out of them.

So I've finally purchased a new set of tires and I'm hoping that they'll arrive at Ship Happens before the weekend. This may be the first event I use them at, otherwise, I may end up co-driving my dad's car.
Patrick, is your wrist now well enough now to drive? |

Great, whatcha get?
Yeah, I drove for the first time on Monday and took my dad grocery shopping. My wrist has now been a little sore since then, but it's not bad. I expect to be ready to rumble on Sunday. ...although I'm not looking forward to swapping over to my track tires/wheels on Saturday evening.

I had my choice of tire narrowed down between two of them, but the day I went to order I noticed a brand new tire in the same category (here). They're an updated version of what Brian just bought. I remember the previous version being far more expensive than similar tires, so I suppose they've lowered the price to be more competitive. The reviews say that they're more tolerable for daily driving, being a bit quieter and pretty decent in the rain. Realistically, I'm too lazy to swap tires, and I do far more driving between autocross events than at the events, so it seemed like a good choice.
One thing I sometimes do when swapping over tires is to only raise the car just enough to slip the tires off. It makes it a bit easier when you don't have to lift the wheel up as far. |

I didn't know you had 16" wheels. Or I knew but I forgot. Any pictures of them on your Formula?

Excellent! Any links to images of these wheels... or do you want to wait 'til they're on the car before we see 'em?

Let's wait and see what they look like on the car. They're not really anything special, though.

Now Gary, stop that. I need Colby to help me with the upcoming project... so behave. I just finished registering and I noticed something odd at the Karelo site. It's obviously a misprint, but I'll bring it to Rich's attention.

Great, looking forward to seeing you at the track. Too bad Brian can't make it, but if we could just get the boy-wonder (Tristan) to come out and play...

Alright, I'm registered and the new tires are on the car. We're currently also trying to fix an exhaust leak and other issues with the exhaust system before Sunday. It hasn't been very nice listening to it for the last few weeks.
Harrison, hopefully you still remember what you learned at Autox 101. |

Brian, if I wasn't still getting over this sprained wrist, I would've come over and either helped you or done it myself. You need to be at autocross (if not this time, then next time for sure).
Woohoo!
I wanted to do some light mechanical work to ease my wrist back into shape, so I decided to try shimming the rockers in the duke to make it sound less like a diesel when it's idling. Hope I get it back together on Saturday.

Interesting idea... if I still had my Duke I would definitely have been interested in trying out that idea. It's a noisy engine. Edited by Cheese |
