Does anyone happen to know the weights of the stock SE and GT Fieros? And possibly the approximate weight of the stock Iron Block? When I had gone to ICBC a long time back, they had registered it at 1240KGs, which works out to about 2700ibs. To me, this conflicts with the videos David showed me comparing the Fiero and MR2, as the Fiero was quoted at 2800, and I weighed in at 2700 with two 200-pound males in it. Has anyone actually managed to get this thing on the scales? Or measured the weight of a stock engine? |

I hit the truck scales on a semi regular basis, and my 88GT comes in at 1290kg with me out of the car. My V8 when it was in my 85GT came in at 1250kg.
(Yes the V8 weighed less than my V6, however the V8 car had a lot of light weight bits to it, IE the Isuzu vs the Getrag, it was a notchback vs a fastback, all the A/C bits were removed) |

What's this "for now" business? Are you expecting a late-life growth spurt?

I seem to recall my 87 duke 5spd (w/NO options!) I ran over the scales at about 2400lbs. The heaviest I've seen was just a hair under 3000.
And when I did my notch->FB conversion, the total extra was 13lbs (I checked the weight of EACH part BTW and added them all up!). |

John you have mentioned that several times about the weight of the parts of a fastback vs Notchback. There must be something missed, I have no idea what, but I have never seen a notchback and fastback comparably equipped come within 100lbs of a similar notchback. I have also seen 200lb differences between 2 cars. There is some mystery weight or something, something that is not taken into the equation? |

Depends on how much dope is stashed in the rocker panels.

Are you implying I could manage to squeeze approximately... 400ibs worth of dope in the rocker panels? lol Alright, so now I've heard 2400ibs and 2800ibs... Does not having AC and having the basic sound system really reduce the weight that substantially? |

If you remove the driver/etc from the equation....
I think my 87 duke 5spd with no options (no power windows, sunroof, A/C - NADDA!) was about as light as you could get it (oh yeah, even had the 13" steelies with thin plastic hubcaps!). Hence the 2400lbs. About the only thing it had was the stereo (there WAS a delete radio option!). But... that's what... 5lbs? It's a cumulative thing though. I don't see any one option except for A/C, or automatic that adds a lot to it. But when you start to add them all up... you rapidly pack on those extra 500lbs. Sorta like the "oh, its only ONE doughnut". Cough. (oh yeah - if you transport tar oil, you can carry more than loose bud in a given area) |

LOL! So illegal! Wonder how much you'd stand to lose by throwing an LS-series in the back... And an aluminum housed transmission... |

Hmm most weight I have ever had in my personal Fiero, was about 1000lbs total. 8 buckets of steel plates at 100-110lbs each plus my 200lb butt in the drivers seat. Was instantly lowered dang near to the bump stops. It was not intended, I was asked my a former boss/client to stop by and pick up some stuff for a job he was doing. He said it was a few buckets of plates and things. He didn't bother to say they were 5 gallon pales full of steel plates.

LOL! The poor man's lowering kit.
Does no one find it odd, however, that AirCare was off by a total of 400ibs? That's a substantial amount of weight! |

Because I've been working on my other Fiero at Clynt's place, I've been transporting all my tools in the trunk of the GT as well as carting around a tranny and brake rotors etc on the passenger side floor. (I have the passenger seat out.) The GT is sitting nice and low.

LOL, I have carried so many trans axles in my passenger seat, even once had the passenger seat out, and carried a Turbo 400 in the passenger seat well. We should start a thread with pics of the items people have put in there Fiero's. (there are tons of those threads on PFF, but we should have one for local stuff)

Before you posted I was trying to find the picture I took of the 5-speed Isuzu tranny the day I brought it home in the GT a couple of weeks ago. I was going to add it to my last post, and then the phone rang... Anyway, here it is. A tranny and a flywheel and two clutch assemblies and two motor/tranny mounts and two shift cables and other assorted parts. With the seat out there's lots of room. I could have easily fit a second tranny on the floor!

From Aldergrove near Fort Langley all the way to my placein Surrey. I didn't want to put it on the roof and scratch the paint.
This is John Carlo's old 4spd Transaxle coming home to my place for Nigel in the passanger seat of my 88GT. Sorry for the poor quality it was taken on my cell phone to upload to Facebook. |
