track, allwas wondered how the Fiero would do in that class, you would have
to do a few mods to the Fiero to run on that track, but it would be nice to
kick those Honda guys butts a few times.the 86 Fiero is in a farmers field
just sitting there with all of his outer junk, vary cheep or free!!no motor,no
glass no interiors, just about reddy for the track as is LOL
cheers

Well, I would be interested in looking at it except for it not having a motor.... I would rather start with a complete car, but thank you though.

Drop in a V6. Then you'll be somewhat competitive. Drop in a V8 - you'll win for sure.
Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan.

Quite an accomplishment considering some of the high price horsepower he was competing against. However, in 9th place just ahead of Brian was... a 1989 Honda Civic.  That ugly thing went like stink!

He only beat me that day by 200th of a second...if I was more competitive and social that day I know I would have taken place over him :)

Brian, should that have read, "...if I was more competitive than sociable that day..."

If so, I'll accept part of the blame as I was a passenger in your GT for at least three of your runs!

Killed the last Civic I raced... I'm thinking with an extra two cylinders strapped on I'd rip their faces off.

And they usually only allow steel body cars.

"Car horns, radios/speakers and third (high mount) brake lights must be in working condition."

Radios and speakers must be in working condition? Now that's just weird!

Has to do w/ weight. Could have a gutted stereo or magnet-less speakers. How do you know if ppl have tried to lighten their car by gutting stereo components? Get them to test it to see if it works!

Every lbs counts!

We have dropped the car radio rule. And there is really no standardised rule book for hornet class. Every track is different. So at Agassiz a Fiero is OK. And weight can actually be your friend, if it is in the right place. At least one car was DQed a few years ago for filling part of his cage with lead.

I am guessing the "Hornet" names stems from the engine sound of a 4cyl which is why all cars must be a 4cyl?  Just curious.  I would bet a Fiero with an HO Q4 would be interesting.  Those are cheap motors that made nearly 200hp in stock trim and could be wound out to 240hp. Pretty much sounded like a sack of hornets even in there best days.  You can still find entire cars with the Q4's kicking around for 500 bucks.  Most are now in need of a head gasket though as they have not been made in nearly 20 years.

Doesn't an Ecotec bolt up to the tranies?  Aren't they pretty darn powerful?

Way too cost prohibitive.  Ecotec swaps start at $5000 and go up I have seen people drop 13,000 on a running Ecotec swap that was not much faster than a hopped up 2.8 V6.

Hornet is a stock car class. You have to run it the way it was made. Thats why car choice is so important. The guys who choose the wrong car run way at the back....
